Registered Nurse (Remote) – Transportation Security This Position Is Contingent Upon Bid Award

Work Location Transportation Security Agency (TSA) Headquarters 595 Springfield Center Drive, Springfield, VA 20598 (Fairfax County)

  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries, Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
  • Estimated Period of Performance: One 12-month base period of September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2027, plus four additional 12-month option periods through August 31, 2031.
  • Type of Employment: Performance/Output Driven.

Working Hours TSA core hours are 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. The position does not prescribe a specific eight-hour shift, weekends, or rotating shifts; staffing must support workload, response times, and required performance metrics, including approximately 50 AMC cases per key person per day, about six reviews per nurse per day, and at least 300 medical recommendations per day when sufficient cases exist.

Nurses may work remotely but must be able to report physically to TSA Headquarters for medical exam review training (typically in the first month), and whenever OCMO requests.

Qualifications All personnel must be fully trained, licensed/certified, and qualified under Virginia industry requirements. Certified as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia Holds a bachelor's and/or Master of Science in nursing. At least 2 years of direct relevant experience in occupational health, employee case management, and medical review, including FFD and medical exam records.

Summary of Duties: The Registered Nurse will review employee medical questionnaires, Fitness for Duty (FFD), FMLA, and medical examination records to assess medical qualifications for TSA personnel. Document case findings, obtain and review follow-up medical information, provide customer service, and support medical staff with qualification recommendations and case documentation.

Attire The Registered Nurse is expected to wear approved professional clothing appropriate to the environment while on duty. Footwear will be closed-toe, flat-bottom, and completely cover the feet; fluid resistance and non-slip soles are preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities Review Annual Medical Certification questionnaires and medical examination records. Evaluate Fitness for Duty (FFD) and FMLA medical documentation. Request and review additional medical information when needed. Document case findings and maintain accurate medical records. Recommend medical qualification or clearance decisions to federal medical staff. Provide customer service to employees and applicants regarding medical cases. Maintain confidentiality and securely handle protected health information. Assist with EEO and litigation-related medical records requests. Prepare monthly and quarterly program reports. Support surge staffing and special projects as needed.
