JOB DESCRIPTION: Lake Oswego Law Firm is hiring a full-time associate attorney with 0–3 years of experience. This is an in-person position at our Lake Oswego office. No remote or hybrid work.
ABOUT THE FIRM: The practice focuses on probate and trust administration and estate planning working closely with CPAs on tax matters, some trust and probate litigation, and guardianship and conservatorship proceedings. The firm owner is a Lewis & Clark Law graduate with a Tax LL.M. from the University of Washington. Small, collegial team. Office dog on site daily.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage probate administrations from opening through closing: petitions, identifying and gathering assets and values, preparing accountings, working with clients to identify and address creditor claims, coordination with CPAs on tax matters, and distributions.
2. Handle trust administrations: Beneficiary notices and communications, asset tracking, trustee reporting, coordination with CPAs on tax matters and considerations, and distribution documentation.
3. Working with clients to prepare estate plans, with blended family and tax planning considerations.
4. Support some trust and probate litigation, as needed.
5. Administering guardianship and conservatorship proceedings, including contested proceedings.
6. Substantial direct client contact from day one — client meetings, status updates, and day-to-day case communications.
7. Attend court hearings and make appearances with increasing independence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
2. Active membership in the Oregon State Bar, or sat for the July 2026 Oregon bar exam. Candidates awaiting OREGON bar results may begin as a law clerk, with advancement to the associate position contingent upon passage of the bar exam and admission to the Oregon State Bar. Â
3. Comfort with direct client communication.
4. Comfortable in a fast-paced office where effective & efficient handling of client matters is the priority.
5. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to courthouses in Washington, Columbia, Multnomah, Clackamas, and Marion Counties.
6. The practice works closely with CPAs on estate planning and administration, so a background in accounting or finance is a plus.
The position offers direct mentorship from an attorney with an active probate and trust practice. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
