Job description

Overview:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the plate material handler is responsible for keeping the plate storage area organized at all times and pulling plates needed in relation to the wood truss schedule in order to support inventory accuracy and efficient manufacturing operations.
Essential Functions:
  • Promote and drive safety-first culture, ensuring the safety of employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Know and follow safety and emergency procedures as needed.
  • Ability to learn, align with, and support company goals, values, and mission statement
  • Operate all equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
  • Achieve and maintain efficient pace to ensure truss tables are always appropriately supplied
  • Work closely with operations leadership, review processes and departmental layout to assure lowest production costs and highest shop labor efficiency.
  • Perform cycle counts on plate inventory and communicate with saw/plate/pick-line coordinator to support inventory accuracy
  • Communicate with Saw/Plate/Pick-Line Coordinator to ensure plates are pulled and stage in correct sequence
  • Keep all plate inventory organized to ensure FIFO (First In/First Out) of material
  • Tag and rotate inventory with date received to aide in visual inventory control for FIFO purposes
  • Pull and stage plates on cart by job in sequence of wood truss schedule to support efficient operations and inventory control
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness of plate storage areas at all time

Skills/Experience Requirements:
Required attributes
  • Forklift certification required
  • Ability to communicate in an effective manner in order to ensure efficient and effective completion of job related functions
  • Ability to read/write fluently, follow directions, and work independently with little guidance
  • Ability to maintain a dependable attendance record
  • Work indoors without air conditioning
  • Work independently or in a team environment
  • Willingness to work any overtime needed to support customer demands

Preferred attributes
  • Experience working in building materials and or manufacturing
  • Experience with inventory control
  • Forklift experience

Physical Requirements:
  • Walking and/or standing for long periods of time
