DLZ is seeking Construction Inspectors / Observers to support infrastructure projects in Michigan.
What You'll Do:

  • Perform all phases of field assignment. Interpret specifications, working drawings and convey intent to the contractor.
  • Responsible for all aspects of field inspection, testing, testing coordination, sampling, equipment, and equipment maintenance on assigned project.
  • Obtain and record field data, in a legible and organized fashion; as required by the plans, specifications, or project staff. Generate and compile field reports.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Work with project staff on design changes.
  • Communicate with all entities keeping everyone fully informed.
  • Record daily installed construction quantities to review payment requests in terms of progress and amount completed to date.
  • Understand the public health and safety requirements and be fully trained in the proper safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or other related field, or
    • Associates Degree in related field with 2+ years of experience, or
    • High School diploma (or equivalent) with 5+ years related experience.
  • Experience on MDOT or LAP projects
  • Working knowledge of ProjectWise and FieldBook or AASHTOWare
  • Required certifications/training (or ability to obtain):
    • MDOT Density Control Technician
    • MCA/ACI Concrete Level I
    • Aggregate Sampling and/or Aggregate Level I
    • HMA Paving Operations
    • Construction Stormwater Operator
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record, and ability to pass background check and drug testing (including marijuana)
  • Ability to safely traverse active construction sites and comply with all safety requirements
  • Proficient using mobile devices for documentation and communication
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel throughout Michigan and the tri-state area.

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points):

  • Concrete Paving Inspector Training
  • MCA Concrete Level II or ACI Strength Certification
  • SESC Plan Review & Design
  • Prevailing Wage Training
  • 10-hour OSHA or MOST Safety Certification
  • Municipal inspection experience (roads and/or utility projects)
  • Experience with AASHTOWare
