Summary:
  • To assist certified professional staff with students in all education environments to meet instructional goals and objectives.

Qualifications:
  • Hold a Paraprofessional License.
  • Present evidence of a physical exam to determine "fit for duty", evidence of being free from communicable disease (TB), and submit to a criminal background check.
  • Participation in de-escalation technique training and any additional training as required by the district.
  • Ability to understand, apply, and use computers and software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written or verbal forms.
  • Ability to travel between schools, or between schools and district office.
  • Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to bend, reach with hands and arms, sit on a chair, sit on the ground with students, kneel, crouch, stand, crawl, walk, and navigate stairs.
  • Be capable of physically assisting students as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, etc.).
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to verbally communicate and the ability to hear effectively.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists students in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize learning, achievement, and inclusion.
  • Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, and other skills.
  • Works with students individually, in small groups, or whole groups to reinforce and re-teach learning.
  • Assists professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom activities and assessments.
  • Assists with record-keeping procedures.
  • Assists with classroom management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
  • Assists all students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch program, bus duty, playground duty, hallway supervision, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
  • Prepares education materials as needed.
  • Assists students with activities such as daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities (toileting, feeding, maneuvering, hygiene, etc).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others.
  • Assists with fostering independence, socialization, and self-esteem for all students.
  • Substitute for paraprofessionals or, when certified, for teachers, ensuring continuity of instruction and student support.
  • Perform any other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school.
