Traveling Inventory Manager Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Location: Cincinnati, OH headquarters (regular monthly travel required to branch locations in Louisville, Columbus, Walton, and Detroit)

Salary: $75,000–$100,000, based on experience and qualifications

Mills Fence Co. is building a smarter, more connected inventory system from the ground up, and we're looking for someone who wants to build it with us. This isn't a maintain-the-status-quo role. It's a build-the-system role, for someone who gets genuine satisfaction creating structure and repeatable processes.

This position is critical to the success of our recent Acumatica ERP implementation. We've transitioned from limited inventory visibility to managing more than 8,500 SKUs with location-specific quantities and costs, and success now depends on accurate execution of inventory processes, not just software. We need a leader that will help ensure these processes are followed.

The first project: our Cincinnati headquarters has years of accumulated inventory and no real yard or building layout to speak of. It's a genuine heavy lift, reorganizing physical space, designing layouts that make sense, and standing up practices that don't exist yet. For the right person, that's the exciting part: a blank canvas with real, visible impact from day one.

From there, the role expands to our branch locations in Louisville, Columbus, Walton, and Detroit (with more on the way), working closely with the Purchasing Manager to build one consistent, accurate inventory system company-wide. During the first several months, expect a heavy focus on establishing process discipline, auditing compliance, and coaching branch personnel. Once those processes are established, the role evolves into a traditional inventory management position focused on optimization, warehouse efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Build & Implement (Early Focus)

• Work with operations team to ensure current inventoryrelated processes are being followed
• Design and implement inventory practices, layouts, and workflows as part of our Acumatica rollout — you'll help define how we do this, not just follow an existing playbook
• Reorganize and rebuild the Cincinnati yard and building layout, working through excess/aged inventory to establish a clean, sustainable baseline
• Stand up standardized counting, receiving, and tracking procedures that scale across every location
Own Inventory Accuracy
• Maintain accurate records of all fencing materials, hardware, tools, and equipment across all company locations
• Lead and oversee regular physical counts and reconcile discrepancies between system data and onhand inventory
• Conduct inventory audits at each branch location to verify stock levels and compliance with company standards
• Investigate inventory discrepancies, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions
• Maintain proper documentation for all inventory transactions and transfers between branches
• Transition to operational leadership role with direct reports
Drive Operational Compliance
• Enforce and improve established procedures for receiving, storing, issuing, and tracking materials
• Drive adherence to processes surrounding truck loading, material issues, receipts, transfers, returns, and adjustments
• Spot inefficiencies in inventory flow and build solutions that improve accuracy, speed, and cost control
• Refine tracking and reporting systems in Acumatica to increase visibility and accountability for material movement
• Lead ongoing initiatives around waste reduction and inventory optimization
• Ensure all inventory practices comply with company policies, safety regulations, and applicable laws
Collaborate Across the Company
• Work directly with the Purchasing Manager to forecast material needs, coordinate purchase orders, and manage vendor relations
• Work with the CFO and Director of Operations to align on accuracy and resourcing for inventory counts
• Partner with branch managers, production, and installation teams so the right materials are in the right place at the right time
• Train and guide warehouse and yard personnel on inventory procedures and best practices
• Promote a culture of safe inventory practices, accountability, accuracy, and efficiency across all locations
WHAT YOU NEED
• 5+ years of experience in inventory management, warehouse operations, or supply chain management (construction or fencing industry preferred)
• Proven ability to develop and improve inventory processes across multiple locations
• A genuine aptitude for technology and systems — comfortable learning new software quickly and configuring processes within it; high technical aptitude expected
• Handson proficiency with inventory or ERP software (Acumatica strongly preferred)
• Sharp attention to detail — you notice discrepancies others miss and instinctively want to fix them
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and work closely with purchasing, operations, and branch teams
• Comfort building something from scratch — written procedures, layouts, and habits that don't fully exist yet
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel monthly to regional branch locations
NICE TO HAVE
• Background in inventory, warehouse, supply chain, production, or assembly environments
• Experience with construction, fencing, or distribution businesses managing a large variety of SKUs
• Experience standing up inventory systems or processes across multiple locations
• Lean warehouse or continuous improvement experience
• Experience with barcode scanning or warehouse technology

A BIT ABOUT THE DAY-TO-DAY
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform handson inventory tasks when required
