COMPUTER TECHNICIAN – INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR

About us:

CyberTeck Academy is seeking a qualified Computer Technician to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and reimaging of Dell, Acer, and Toshiba laptops used in our educational programs.

Role Overview:

This is a freelance independent contractor opportunity and is not a traditional part-time employee position. This role is ideal for experienced computer technicians seeking supplemental income, side work, or additional earnings while maintaining full-time employment or other business activities. Work is assigned on an as-needed basis throughout the year and there is no guarantee of a minimum number of hours. The technician will be responsible for picking up laptops from designated locations, performing repairs and reimaging at their own location, and returning completed laptops when repairs are finished. Contractors have flexibility to perform the work during hours that fit their schedule, provided agreed-upon deadlines are met.

Job Duties

• Reimage Windows laptops using cloning/ghosting software.
• Install missing drivers and software.
• Troubleshoot Windows boot failures and hardware-related issues.
• Test laptops to verify functionality after repair or reimaging.
• Maintain records of laptops received, reimaged, repaired, and returned, including serial numbers or asset tags when provided.
• Pick up and return laptops from designated storage or manager meeting locations.
• Provide periodic updates on repair progress via email or virtual meetings.
• Handle company equipment responsibly and securely while in possession.

Technical Requirements

Applicants must have prior experience reimaging computers using cloning or ghosting software and must possess the equipment necessary to perform the work, including:

• Network switch (12–24 ports preferred)
• Cloning/Ghosting software
• Network cables
• USB drives
• Workspace suitable for storing and repairing multiple laptops

Qualifications

• Experience troubleshooting Windows 8 and Windows 10 laptops.
• Experience reimaging computers through a network environment.
• Ability to diagnose hardware and software issues.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Reliable transportation for equipment pickup and return.

Evaluation Process

As part of the interview process, applicants may be asked to demonstrate their reimaging process by setting up a network and testing up to five (5) laptops provided by CyberTeck Academy. CyberTeck Academy will provide a clean laptop image to be used as the master image for testing purposes.

Compensation

• $25.00 per hour.
• Mileage reimbursement of $0.70 per mile for approved pickup and return trips involving CyberTeck Academy equipment.
• Travel time is not separately compensated.
• Contractors must submit invoices detailing hours worked, laptops reimaged, approved mileage, and any approved troubleshooting services.
• Approved invoices will be paid within twenty-five (25) days of receipt.
• Additional compensation terms are governed by the Independent Contractor Agreement.

Technicians must be willing to meet CyberTeck Academy managers at designated locations in:

• Fairfax County, Virginia
• Montgomery County, Maryland
• Columbia, Maryland
