What is a traveling analyst?

A Traveling Analyst is a professional who conducts research, analysis, and data collection while frequently traveling to various locations. Their work often involves visiting client sites, industry events, or field locations to gather firsthand information, conduct interviews, and assess operational practices. Traveling Analysts can work in various industries such as finance, consulting, market research, or logistics. Their insights help organizations make informed decisions, improve processes, or identify new opportunities. The role requires adaptability, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate findings effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a traveling analyst?

A Traveling Analyst needs strong analytical skills, data interpretation abilities, and a relevant degree such as in business, finance, or data science. Familiarity with data analysis tools like Excel, SQL, Tableau, and sometimes ERP systems, as well as certifications like CFA or data analytics credentials, are typically required. Outstanding communication, adaptability, and cross-cultural awareness are crucial for effectively gathering insights and presenting findings in diverse environments. These skills enable Traveling Analysts to deliver accurate, actionable recommendations while navigating various locations and client settings.

How does frequent travel impact the day-to-day responsibilities and collaboration for a traveling analyst?

As a Traveling Analyst, you'll spend a significant portion of your time visiting client sites or company locations, which means your daily tasks often extend beyond traditional desk work. While on the road, you'll frequently collaborate remotely with your home office and other team members using digital communication tools, ensuring alignment and sharing insights in real time. Adapting to varying environments and managing travel logistics can be challenging, but it also provides a dynamic work experience and valuable exposure to different business practices.

Job Description

The Travel and Intel Analyst will serve as the administrator and developer for the team’s intelligence tool suite. This role is responsible for configuring, maintaining, and enhancing the platforms that power travel risk monitoring, threat intelligence, and data visibility, ensuring the MSOC has dependable, well-tuned tools to support a scaling 24/7 operation.

Salary: $80,000 / Year

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Those duties necessary to meet the minimum requirements of the position.  Other duties may be assigned:

  • Partner with MSOC leadership, analysts, travel stakeholders, and technology teams to define requirements for the growing travel security capability and translate them into tool configurations and workflows.
  • Serve as the primary SME for the MSOC’s intelligence tool suite (e.g., threat intelligence, critical event management, mass communications, travel risk, and social media monitoring platforms), managing user access, permissions, licensing, and system configuration.
  • Configure and tune alerting logic, watchlists, geofences, and monitoring rules within intel tools to improve relevance and reduce noise for travel security and broader MSOC monitoring use cases.
  • Onboard integrations between intel platforms, travel management systems, and other enterprise data sources to create a unified, reliable view of traveler location, exposure, and risk.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and data visualizations within the intel tool suite that give MSOC leadership and stakeholders timely insight into travel risk, incidents, and program performance.
  • Support the design and continuous improvement of the travel risk lifecycle—pre-travel assessment, active monitoring, incident response, escalation, and post-event review, by shaping how tools are configured to support each stage.
  • Own ongoing administration tasks for intel tools, including software updates, license renewals, vendor coordination, data feed troubleshooting, and system health monitoring.
  • Evaluate new modules, features, and data sources for existing intel tools, and pilot enhancements that expand travel security or data visibility capabilities.
  • Document tool configurations, administrative procedures, data flows, and standard operating procedures to support continuity, audits, and onboarding of new users.
  • Apply appropriate access controls, privacy practices, and data-handling standards when administering tools that contain employee travel and security information.
  • Train MSOC analysts on new tool capabilities, configuration changes, and best practices to drive consistent adoption and effective use of the intel tool suite.
  • Provide tool administration and technical support during significant incidents or periods of elevated travel security activity.
  • Stay current on capabilities and roadmap developments across the MSOC’s intel tool vendors and evaluate relevant enhancements for travel security and data
