Alliance Services, Inc. is seeking a travel nurse RN DOU - Direct Observation Unit for a travel nursing job in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Observation

Job Details:

• Work in a Med Surg/Observation unit (IU 6KLM Med and Tele)
• 1-2 years of experience in an acute care setting required; first-time travelers accepted
• Care for patients including rule-out chest pain, post cath lab, CHF, AFib, rule-out CVAs, TIAs, post IR, cellulitis, and AKI
• Average patient stay of 36 hours with 2-3 admissions and discharges daily
• Patient ratios: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:6-8
• Required certification: BLS
• Skills required include ostomy care, drain management, IV skills, and drip management (heparin, insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone)
• No ventilator or trach experience required; most patients are ambulatory
• Experience in observation unit preferred; experience with admissions and discharges in a fast-paced environment required
• Charting system: EPIC; equipment includes Alaris, Pyxis, and GE monitors
• Unit support includes charge nurse, unit secretary (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), respiratory therapy (24/7), centralized telemetry monitoring with tele tech (24/7), and phlebotomy assistance
• Float to MSUs and ED Holding (1:4 ratio); travelers float first
• Weekend rotation every other weekend
• Schedule created 6 weeks at a time with 2 weeks notice before start of schedule
• No on-call responsibilities
• Cannot work more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts per fatigue policy
• Holiday expectations: 1 holiday per season including Christmas Eve/Christmas Day and NYE/New Year's Day
• Scrub color: Any (no camouflage or denim)
• Must document pain levels before and after administering pain medications per unit protocol
• Free parking available in designated areas

This is a large, highly accredited medical center with 933 beds, recognized as a Level III Trauma Center and a Level III NICU. The facility holds Magnet Designation and is a Comprehensive Stroke Center, reflecting its commitment to excellence in patient care. The Med Surg/Observation unit operates with 28 beds and is supported by robust around-the-clock clinical resources, making it an excellent environment for experienced nursing professionals.
