What does a travel advisor do?

A Travel Advisor helps clients plan and book their travel experiences, including flights, hotels, tours, and transportation. They offer expert advice on destinations, travel arrangements, and activities based on clients' preferences and budgets. Travel Advisors also handle travel documentation, provide up-to-date information on travel restrictions, and assist with any changes or issues that may arise during the trip. Their goal is to ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience for their clients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a travel advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Travel Advisor, you need strong destination knowledge, itinerary planning skills, and typically some experience or certification in travel and tourism. Familiarity with global distribution systems (GDS) like Sabre or Amadeus, as well as booking platforms and travel management software, is commonly required. Exceptional customer service, attention to detail, and strong communication skills set top advisors apart. These abilities are crucial for delivering personalized travel experiences, ensuring client satisfaction, and efficiently managing complex travel arrangements.

How do travel advisors typically work with clients to create personalized travel itineraries?

Travel Advisors collaborate closely with clients to understand their preferences, budgets, and travel goals. They research destinations, recommend accommodations, activities, and experiences tailored to each client, and coordinate logistics such as flights and transfers. Advisors often use their industry connections to secure special rates or exclusive perks and provide ongoing support before and during the trip. This role requires strong communication skills and attention to detail to ensure every itinerary meets the client’s expectations.

Job description

WHO ARE WE?

Cadence is a global travel company dedicated to the art of taking care of people — our clients, our employees, and our partners alike. We offer curated and customizable solutions for every travel need. We manage business travel, plan and operate meetings and incentive travel programs, create curated personal leisure travel experiences, and power a renowned host agency for a worldwide network of independent travel advisor.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We’re looking for a talented, organized, and caring Leisure Travel Advisor to join our in-house team in a remote work environment.  Do you have a passion for cultivating strong client and team relationships?  Do you love solving problems and making good things happen for other people?   Are you eager to join the very best team in travel?  If so, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

WHAT ELSE SHOULD YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY?

Cadence advisors always take the initiative, and you will, too.  As a leisure travel advisor at Cadence, you’ll complete and communicate leisure travel arrangements by fulfilling air, hotel and other transportation requests to the end of optimized spend, seamless travel and first-class service for every client.  You’ll provide daily support and problem solving for a wide range of clients.  Be ready to grab the ball, take responsibility and make things happen.   We’ll invest in your development and show you how caring — for your fellow advisors, your own growth and most importantly, your clients — is the most powerful career move of all.  Below are just a few of the many areas in which you can expect to be involved:

  • Curating custom itineraries for clients given their requested travel plans, working within a range of budgets, interests, and destinations.
  • Confirming air and hotel reservations for clients via Sabre GDS and other booking platforms.
  • Fielding and assisting inquiries from the Cadence website and referral business.
  • Taking In-house leisure bookings for clients referred by our Business Travel and Meeting & Incentives teams.
  • Coordinating and confirming pre- and post-travel extension arrangements (including a considerable volume of international rail and boutique hotel booking for clients booked on existing trips with a prominent tour company for which Cadence services as a Travel Desk partner.
  • Other support duties as assigned by management.

What you bring to the table:

  • Previous exposure/experience in the hospitality industry
  • Experience with booking cruises, tours, travel insurance, car services, and other sightseeing requests to provide quality service.
  • Familiarity with preferred luxury suppliers and vast knowledge of worldwide destinations and eagerness to expand on that knowledge
  • Sabre GDS and Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Tech savvy
  • Genuine LOVE of booking and discussing leisure travel
  • Eagerness to grow knowledge of destinations
  • Proficient organization and time management skills
  • Ability to travel for work (light travel may be required)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and vendors
  • Ability to work independently, exercising discretion and judgment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities
  • Ability to maintain work volume and quality consistent with peers
  • Ability to work under the stress of and meet productivity standards and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Open-mindedness, flexibility and a team-oriented attitude in welcoming additional duties and responsibilities not specifically outlined herein, as requested

WHAT WE VALUE

CARE.

We care about people. Self-care enables one to brighten the day of those around them, starting with their families and colleagues and extending to clients and the world.

A GREAT WORKLIFE.

The problem with the concept of a work-life balance is that one should counteract the other. Not here. Everyone should find joy, connection, and fulfillment through their work. Everyone should be proud of what they do and feel great at the end of each day.

LOVE BETTER.

If we aren’t good at something, we strive to be better. If we are the best in the world at something, we strive to be better. “Good” is not our goal; we are obsessed with BETTER.

WHAT WE EXPECT OF EVERYONE

Every employee at Cadence is expected to come to work each day as the best possible version of themselves with not only a willingness but a genuine desire to do whatever they can to help the company. Self-care enables team care which enables client care, in that order. Individuals will, naturally, have specific roles that align their skills with company needs, but the harmony and success of the greater group will always be a greater priority than individual preferences or achievements. The magical differentiator of Cadence is not what we do but our ability to do it together within an extraordinarily warm and supportive environment. One Team, One Dream.

COMPENSATION:

Cadence takes the best possible care of our employees, including competitive salaries, bonus/incentive opportunities, health, dental, vision, Life and AD&D insurance, company trips/gatherings, personal time off, annual floating days off, and a chance to be a part of an amazing culture that gets that much better the day YOU arrive.

Cadence thanks you in advance for taking the time to consider this opportunity and for your patience!  We’re eager to find the right candidates to join our team, and we aim to fill open positions as soon as possible.   We will do our best to respond in a timely manner.
