Job description

Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and proactive Patient Transport Operations Manager to support and lead the daily management of all patient transportation activities within the hospital. This individual will ensure the safe, timely, and efficient movement of patients to and from departments while building and fostering a healthy, supportive work environment for the team performing the functions. Strong people and time management skills are essential for this role, along with a deep commitment to patient care and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily operations of the patient transport team, ensuring optimal staffing and coverage for all transport requests.
  • Coordinate with nursing, emergency, surgical, diagnostic, and administrative departments to prioritize and schedule transport needs.
  • Handle payroll, time away, and other team level requests that occur within the shift.
  • Communicate staffing needs, new position necessities, with the VPNE HR team.
  • Respond to and communicate all employee relations needs and concerns.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate transport staff, promoting a culture of support, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA regulations, and infection control protocols.
  • Ensure all transport equipment (wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, etc.) is maintained, sanitized, and readily available.
  • Identify and resolve transport delays or bottlenecks, and communicate opportunities to department leadership.
  • Participate in cross-departmental projects aimed at improving patient flow and hospital efficiency.

Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field or equivalent experience

Experience:
  • Minimum of 1-2 years in a hospital or healthcare setting with supervisory experience.
  • Experience within Patient Transport or other hospital support services operations preferred

Skills:
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
  • Clear and compassionate communication with patients, staff, and clinical teams.
  • Technologically proficient (MS Office, logistics or ERP software, hospital systems).

Working Conditions:
  • Frequent walking and movement around the hospital campus.
  • Ability to lift or assist with transporting patients when necessary.
  • On-call availability for emergencies or peak operational times may be required.
