Job description

Department: Transportation

Shift/schedule: Part Time (16 hrs/wk)

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Transportation Tech works under the supervision of the Manager of Transportation. The Transportation Tech drives passenger buses to transport employees and students from offsite parking lots to Main campus and transports employees between campuses. Assists in maintaining vehicle maintenance logs and tallying riders. The Transportation Tech also Monitors/maintains designated parking areas and entrances to Medical Office Buildings. Directs drivers of vehicles to appropriate parking areas. Provides Valet parking services to patients and visitors. Provides information and assistance to employees, visitors, and patients. Keeps front entrances free of parked cars or other obstructions blocking the flow of traffic. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

Licensure:

• BMLV required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC insurance carriers)

• BLS/AED training course within 90 days of hire required

Experience:

• Previous experience in driving delivery vehicles preferred

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

1. Maintains designated parking area and entrances that Valet Services are offered (keeps area free of parked cars/congestion, litter, leaves, snow, etc). Cleans front glass and sweeps entries as needed.

2. Acts as greeter/ambassador for SOMC and its physician offices. Assists in meeting customer needs and service recovery as appropriate.

3. Park and retrieve patients/visitors vehicles in a timely manner ensuring the utmost in vehicle safety.

4. Provides vehicle claim check and instructs patients/visitors on how to reclaim vehicle.

5. Provides directions, parking alternatives and campus information upon request to visitors, delivery drivers, students, staff, and patients.

6. Watches parking lots and garages for suspicious activity and reports such to hospital security.

7. Enforces SOMC parking policies and traffic flow.

8. Able to assist elderly or handicap patients with providing them a wheelchair when needed.

9. Maintains inventory of wheelchairs and retrieves wheelchairs from within the facilities as needed.

10. Assists Grounds department on trash collection days by bundling and getting trash ready for pick-up when able.

11. Assists Couriers when appropriate.

12. Drives passenger buses to transport employees and students from offsite lots to Main campus and between campuses.

13. Assists in maintaining vehicles maintenance logs.

14. Keeps passenger buses clean by daily inspections and throwing away of trash left in buses.

15. Provides emergency backup for delivering of packages from one campus to another.

16. Utilizes proper radio/phone communication and responds in a timely fashion.

17. Follows practices that ensures the security of car keys that are used by Valet.

18. Performs other duties as assigned.
