Job description

Lead HVAC Technician / Service ManagerAugusta or Bangor, Maine

$42–$52 per hour + Performance Incentives + Potential Equity Ownership

About the Opportunity

Client is seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Technician / Service Manager to become the founding technical leader of a new HVAC service operation serving properties throughout Maine.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HVAC professional who wants more than a traditional technician role. The successful candidate will help build the service operation from the ground up, establish operating standards, develop customer relationships, and eventually help build and lead a team of technicians.

The company will provide the startup capital, company vehicle, tools, equipment, technology, inventory, insurance, and administrative support needed to operate the business.

Important Requirement

An active Maine HVAC license is required for this position.

The position will be based in or around Augusta or Bangor, Maine, and the selected candidate must be able to perform service work in the applicable local service territory.

What Makes This Opportunity Different
  • Founding Leadership Role: Help build and shape a new HVAC service business from the beginning.
  • Immediate Work Pipeline: Access to an established portfolio of multifamily and commercial properties and existing HVAC service needs.
  • Strong Compensation: $42–$52 per hour based on experience, licenses, and capabilities.
  • Potential Equity: Opportunity to earn meaningful equity ownership or long-term profit participation.
  • Autonomy: Significant freedom to organize schedules, route service calls, and establish efficient operating practices.
  • Startup Resources Provided: Company vehicle, fuel, tools, equipment, inventory, technology, insurance, and administrative support.
  • Team-Building Opportunity: Help select, train, and supervise additional technicians as the business grows.
  • Career Growth: Opportunity to transition into broader service management and operational leadership.
Key Responsibilities

Initially, this will be a hands-on HVAC position combined with service leadership and business-building responsibilities.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install HVAC equipment.
  • Perform service work across multifamily and commercial properties.
  • Manage and schedule assigned service calls.
  • Organize efficient service routes and daily schedules.
  • Communicate directly with property managers, residents, and customers.
  • Scope HVAC projects and prepare estimates.
  • Help establish the company’s initial service offerings.
  • Develop standards for tools, vehicles, parts, safety, and service quality.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and customer records.
  • Train and supervise an assistant technician.
  • Assist with recruiting and onboarding additional technicians.
  • Help establish service procedures and operating standards.
  • Provide input on equipment, inventory, technology, and vehicle requirements.
  • Help develop customer service and quality-control standards.
  • Contribute to the company’s long-term strategy and growth.

As the company expands, the role is expected to become increasingly focused on leadership, technician development, service management, customer relationships, and operational oversight.

QualificationsRequired
  • Active Maine HVAC license – REQUIRED
  • At least 5 years of HVAC field experience.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to independently complete HVAC service work.
  • Relevant EPA/federal certifications required for the work performed.
  • Experience with several types of HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Ability to scope work and communicate clearly with customers.
  • Strong judgment, reliability, and organizational skills.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to work in Augusta or Bangor, Maine, and surrounding service areas.
  • Strong interest in building and leading a growing HVAC operation.
Preferred Experience

Experience with any combination of:

  • Heat pumps
  • Mini-splits
  • Boilers
  • Hydronic systems
  • Oil systems
  • Propane
  • Natural gas
  • Commercial HVAC equipment
  • Refrigeration
  • HVAC controls

Previous experience training, supervising, or leading technicians is a plus but not required.

We do not expect one person to have experience with every type of HVAC system. We are looking for a capable, trustworthy, technically strong professional with good judgment, a strong work ethic, and the desire to take ownership of the role.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $42–$52 per hour, depending on experience, licenses, and capabilities
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Performance-based bonuses
  • Potential equity ownership or long-term profit participation
  • Company truck
  • Company fuel card
  • Tools and equipment provided
  • Health insurance contribution
  • Dental insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • 401(k) / retirement contribution
  • Professional development assistance
  • Relocation assistance
  • Year-round work
  • Established pipeline of service demand
  • Significant autonomy over daily scheduling and work planning

The exact compensation and ownership opportunity will depend on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, licensing, responsibilities, and interest in helping build the business over the long term.

Location & Schedule

Location: Augusta or Bangor, Maine
Service Area: Central and Southern Maine, with the initial operating territory centered around the successful candidate's location.

This is a full-time, in-person position with considerable flexibility and autonomy.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help create an efficient schedule that balances customer responsiveness, service demands, routing efficiency, and reasonable working hours.

Build Something From the Ground Up

This is more than a standard HVAC technician position.

We are looking for someone who wants to become a founding technical leader, help establish the operation, build a team, develop service standards, and potentially participate in the long-term value created as the company grows.

If you have an active Maine HVAC license, strong field experience, and the ambition to help build and lead an HVAC business, we would like to hear from you.
