Transition Project Manager information

What is a transition project manager?

Transition Project Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the smooth transfer of projects, services, or operations from one state to another, such as during mergers, system upgrades, or organizational changes. They plan, coordinate, and execute transition activities to minimize disruption and ensure that objectives are met within budget and timeline constraints. Their role often involves risk assessment, stakeholder communication, and process optimization to ensure a seamless transition and continued business performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a transition project manager?

To thrive as a Transition Project Manager, you need strong project management expertise, experience in change management, and often a relevant degree or certification like PMP or PRINCE2. Familiarity with project management tools (such as MS Project, Jira, or Asana) and IT service management systems (like ITIL) is typically required. Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills help you lead teams and navigate organizational change. These abilities are crucial to ensure seamless transitions, minimize disruptions, and achieve project goals on time and within budget.

What are some common challenges faced by transition project managers during organizational change initiatives?

Transition Project Managers often encounter challenges such as managing stakeholder expectations, ensuring clear communication across departments, and maintaining project timelines while adapting to evolving requirements. Navigating resistance to change from employees and addressing unforeseen operational disruptions are also frequent hurdles. Successful Transition Project Managers leverage strong interpersonal skills and a structured approach to problem-solving to guide teams smoothly through changes while minimizing risks to business continuity.

Both roles are essential but differ in scope, responsibility, and level of leadership within projects.

What jobs can a transition project manager transition to?

A transition project manager can transition to roles such as program manager, operations manager, or business analyst, leveraging skills in project planning, stakeholder communication, and change management. Certifications like PMP or Agile can facilitate career shifts into related fields like consulting or process improvement. Experience in managing complex projects makes them suitable for leadership roles across various industries.

Project Manager II

About LBMX

LBMX is a dynamic and growing SaaS company with an international perspective, proudly based in London, Ontario. As we continue our strong growth trajectory, we’re looking for talented, driven, and collaborative individuals to join us and help shape what’s next.

Recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, LBMX combines strong performance with a people-first culture. We believe in building meaningful careers, supporting work-life balance, and creating an environment where your contributions are valued and your growth is encouraged.

At LBMX, you’ll have the opportunity to grow, contribute meaningfully, and be part of a team building something exceptional.

Position Description:

The Project Manager II owns the schedule, sequencing, and resourcing of complex implementation projects. This role owns the when and the who for assigned projects so that customers reach value on the date we committed to, and internal stakeholders can see where every project actually stands. Working closely with Implementation Specialists, EDI Analysts, Onboarding Specialists, Customer Success, and Sales, the Project Manager II holds the project board, drives kickoff and milestone communication, manages change requests, and surfaces blockers before they cause a slip.

Positions Available: 1

What You Will Do:

  • Own and maintain project boards for assigned implementations, ensuring project phases, owners, target dates, status updates, risks, open items, and action plans are accurate and reviewed weekly.
  • Plan and facilitate internal project kickoffs with all required stakeholders, including the preparation and customization of kickoff materials, project objectives, roles, timelines, and success criteria.
  • Plan and lead customer-facing kickoff meetings, delivering tailored materials that establish expectations, milestones, responsibilities, communication cadence, and next steps.
  • Initiate customer welcome communications following project assignment, ensuring customers understand the implementation process, key contacts, timelines, and upcoming activities.
  • Develop and manage project schedules aligned with scope, customer commitments, and internal capacity, coordinating work across Implementation Specialists, EDI Analysts, and Onboarding Specialists.
  • Proactively identify project risks, dependencies, and blockers, driving timely resolution or escalation before they impact timelines or customer commitments.
  • Own change request management processes, including facilitating change discussions with Implementation Specialists, evaluating business justification, assessing timeline and resource impacts, and securing appropriate approvals before work begins.
  • Review sales handoff documentation during project intake to identify scope gaps, missing requirements, or unclear commitments, addressing issues before they impact project execution.
  • Manage customer communications throughout key project milestones, ensuring customers have clear visibility into project progress, upcoming activities, risks, and decisions.
  • Maintain visibility into upcoming resource requirements across assigned projects, identifying capacity constraints and potential conflicts early.
  • Coordinate successful transitions from Implementation to Customer Success and Account Management by ensuring open items, commitments, documentation, and customer expectations are clearly transferred.
  • Provide regular project reporting on status, risks, dependencies, and forecasted go-live dates, ensuring escalations include clear context and recommended actions.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of implementation processes by developing and enhancing project templates, kickoff materials, status reporting standards, and reusable project management resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

  • 5+ years of project management experience delivering customer-facing implementations, professional services engagements, or technology projects within a SaaS or B2B technology environment.
  • Proven experience managing multiple concurrent projects with competing priorities, timelines, dependencies, and shared resources.
  • Understanding of B2B integrations, including EDI, APIs, ERP connectivity, data workflows, or other complex technology implementations is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project schedules, maintain accurate status reporting, implement change control processes, and proactively escalate risks.
  • Strong ability to hold internal teams and customers accountable to agreed-upon timelines, deliverables, and project commitments.
  • Exceptional facilitation, meeting management, stakeholder coordination, and customer communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to detail in project documentation, status updates, requirements tracking, and customer communications.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams, including Implementation, Sales, Product, Customer Success, Support, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Project management certification (PMP, CAPM, or equivalent) is considered an asset.
  • Highly professional, self-motivated, and accountable, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive successful project outcomes.

Compensation

Salary Range: $100,000 - 105,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications

What You Can Expect at LBMX

  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefit package, including a health spending account and employee assistance program
  • Three weeks’ vacation and five personal days to start, plus additional paid LBMX holidays throughout the year
  • Company matched GRSP contributions
  • Flexible summer hours and a strong commitment to work-life balance
  • Education subsidies to support your professional growth
  • Maternity, Parental, and Compassionate Care Leave top-up program
  • $500 new hire home office allowance
