Job Title: Field Service TechnicianJob Type: Full-timeIndustry: TransportationCompany Information: RL Controls, LLC (RLC) is an ISO-certified systems integrator supporting the diverse technical needs of the mass transportation industry. Our primary focus is on system technologies that enable vehicle solutions for shuttle, bus, rail systems, and facilities.Role Overview: The Field Installation & Service Technician will execute installations and testing for simple to complex vehicle systems, including upgrading equipment (software, hardware, and telecommunications network components). Responsibilities include installing and terminating DC low-voltage power and signal wiring, as well as conduit work.QualificationsExperience:• 2+ years of field service experience in the mass transit industry (Entry to Mid-level candidates will be considered).Education:• Technical degree preferred; industry certifications are a plus.Skills & Competencies:The ideal candidate will demonstrate:• Technical experience in engineering or field service within the mass transit industry.• The ability to read, comprehend, and apply technical documentation, specifications, and schematics.• Competence with hand and power tools, including calibrated tools and multimeters.• Proficiency in wire termination, cabling, conduit work, and working around AC and DC high-voltage systems.• Problem-solving skills, adaptability, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.• Strong communication skills for completing reports and following both written and verbal instructions.• Physical ability to:o Lift up to 50 lbs.o Work at heights up to 25 feet using ladders.o Operate in confined spaces, electrical cabinets, and on vehicles up to 16 feet high.• Willingness to travel nationally for extended periods (valid driver's license required).ResponsibilitiesAs a Field Service Technician, your key duties will include:• Completing hands-on installations, upgrades, and disassembly of vehicle systems.• Performing system testing, integration, and troubleshooting as part of a project team.• Conducting site surveys and attending site-specific meetings.• Installing and commissioning wired and wireless low-voltage network solutions.• Validating network functionality and documenting results.• Adhering to OSHA, FRA, and RLC safety and PPE standards.Preferred Experience• Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, construction drawings, and schematics.• Experience with:o Field installation and testing of CCTV, access control, and intrusion detection systems.o Axis or other competitive IP camera technologies.o Extreme Networks or similar wired and wireless network technologies.RL Controls Core Expectations:• Maintain professional, positive relationships with customers and subcontractors.• Work collaboratively within a team while demonstrating independence.• Provide technical feedback and suggestions for improvement.• Stay self-motivated, organized, and take pride in quality workmanship and meeting schedules.• Participate in ongoing internal and external training programs.Additional InformationThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee.
