Southwest Electric Co. a division of SGB-SMIT Group, is a global transformer manufacturer with European roots, supporting the energy transition with reliable solutions for wind and solar power, industry and urban energy infrastructure.
Southwest Electric Co. is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer - Power Transformers to support the design, engineering, and technical execution of medium and large power transformer projects. The role operates independently at the Oklahoma City site while closely collaborating with colleagues across the global BU Power Transformers organization.
Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Design and engineer mechanical components of power transformers including tanks, cores, clamping systems, and accessories.
  • Perform mechanical calculations related to structural strength, vibration, lifting, and transportation.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Support manufacturing during fabrication and assembly with technical guidance.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering to ensure integrated and optimized transformer designs.
  • Support factory acceptance tests and resolve mechanical non-conformities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in mechanical design, cost optimization, and manufacturability.

Requirements
Mechanical Engineer Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
3+ years of experience in mechanical design within heavy equipment, transformers, or similar industries.
Strong understanding of structural mechanics and fabrication methods.
Experience with CAD tools and mechanical calculation methods.
Knowledge of relevant industry standards (ASME, IEEE, ANSI).
Strong problem-solving skills and hands-on mindset.
