Job Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the independent design, development, and optimization of transformers and related components. As a fully competent engineer, the Design role involves applying well-established expertise to complete tasks and projects with minimal supervision. This role includes collaboration with cross-functional teams and occasional mentoring of less experienced engineers. The Design Engineer contributes to product performance, efficiency, and customer satisfaction while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

This role will be onsite in Athens, GA. Relocation Assistance is available.


  • Independently design and develop transformers and related components, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, CSA) and customer specifications.
  • Conduct engineering analyses to optimize product performance, cost, and efficiency.
  • Perform detailed failure analysis on design-related issues, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions to improve product quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance,  supply chain, sales, and customer service to ensure successful integration of designs into production.
  • Participate in design reviews to provide technical input and ensure that designs meet project and customer requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and technical reports.
  • Stay current with industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure product designs remain competitive and compliant.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, promoting innovation and efficiency in the design process.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance as needed, though leadership is not a primary focus of this role.

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • More than 5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on transformer or related product design.
  • Proficiency with design and analysis tools, including mechanical and thermal analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, FEA).
  • Ability to interact with, maintain, and update ERP system data related to engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, CSA) and regulatory requirements (e.g. DOE) for transformers and related components.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working in cross-functional teams.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Experience conducting failure analysis and implementing corrective actions for design-related issues.
