Kelly Engineering seeks a Design Engineer to join our client's team supporting warehouse automation and intralogistics projects. This role is ideal for an engineering professional who combines strong AutoCAD design capabilities with the ability to think at the system level. You will work closely with engineering, project, and integration teams to develop facility and equipment layouts for complex automated warehouse systems, ensuring designs are optimized for performance, installation, safety, and operational requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and refine 2D AutoCAD layouts for automated warehouse and material handling systems
  • Support system design activities from concept development through detailed design and project execution
  • Analyze facility constraints, operational requirements, equipment interfaces, and installation considerations to create effective system layouts
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, integration, and project engineering teams to resolve design challenges and optimize system performance
  • Evaluate layout alternatives and provide recommendations based on engineering, operational, and constructability considerations
  • Coordinate equipment placement, workflow, access requirements, safety zones, and facility infrastructure within system designs
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from engineering and project stakeholders
  • Ensure design documentation meets quality standards and maintain proper revision control throughout the project lifecycle

What You’ll Need:
  • Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical field preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in design engineering, systems layout design, mechanical design, or similar engineering-focused role
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD (2D)
  • Demonstrated experience working on large-scale industrial, automation, material handling, manufacturing, or warehouse projects
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and ability to apply system-level thinking to design challenges
  • Experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills

Nice to Have:
  • Experience with warehouse automation, material handling, intralogistics, conveyors, robotics, or automated systems
  • Experience developing layouts for distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, or industrial installations
  • Exposure to equipment integration, system commissioning, or facility implementation projects
