What are the 4 types of project managers?

In project management, four common types of project managers are functional, projectized, matrix, and hybrid. A Transformation Project Manager plays a pivotal role in uniting cross-functional teams to ensure successful project outcomes. They regularly coordinate with stakeholders from various departments—such as IT, operations, HR, and finance—to align goals, clarify expectations, and facilitate effective communication. This often includes leading joint workshops, setting up regular progress meetings, and addressing potential roadblocks early. At Ping Identity, we believe in making digital experiences both secure and seamless for all users, without compromise. We call this digital freedom. And it's not just something we provide our customers. It's something that inspires our company. People don't come here to join a culture that's built on digital freedom. They come to cultivate it.
Our intelligent, cloud identity platform lets people shop, work, bank, and interact wherever and however they want. Without friction. Without fear.
While protecting digital identities is at the core of our technology, protecting individual identities is at the core of our culture. We champion every identity. One of our core values, Respect Individuality, reminds us to celebrate differences so you are empowered to bring your authentic self to work.
We're headquartered in Denver, Colorado and we have offices and employees around the globe. We serve the largest, most demanding enterprises worldwide, including more than half of the Fortune 100. At Ping Identity, we're changing the way people and businesses think about cybersecurity, digital experiences, and identity and access management.
As a Senior Project Manager in Ping Identity's Business Transformation Office (BTO), you'll lead complex, strategic initiatives that improve organizational performance across departments. Working closely with stakeholders across Business, IT, Engineering, and Operations, you'll help define scope, align priorities, map future-state processes, and drive delivery of high-impact transformation initiatives.
This hybrid role, based in Denver, requires strong accountability, cross-functional leadership, and a proactive approach to delivering outcomes. Reporting to the Director of Business Transformation Delivery, you'll ensure alignment with business goals, operational efficiency, and scalable execution in support of Ping's continued growth.
This is a great role for someone who can translate strategic priorities into executable plans, connect process improvement with technology enablement, and lead change across a complex organization.
You Will:
  • Manage a portfolio of complex strategic initiatives that span one or more functions, systems, and operating processes.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into clear scope, requirements, delivery plans, and success measures.
  • Apply project management methodologies to deliver initiatives on time, within scope, and aligned to business objectives.
  • Facilitate collaboration across technical and non-technical teams to drive clarity, alignment, and execution.
  • Track and communicate project milestones, dependencies, risks, issues, and decisions to project teams, business sponsors, and executive stakeholders.
  • Present project status, escalations, and tradeoffs to leadership as needed.
  • Proactively resolve blockers, conflicts, and critical-path items with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Understand interdependencies between technology, operations, and business needs to drive successful outcomes.
  • Contribute to the evolution of BTO best practices, templates, policies, tools, and partnerships.

You Have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Based in Colorado for hybrid work (currently Tuesdays in the office).
  • 5+ years of experience in project management, program management, or PMO.
  • 3+ years of experience in business consulting.
  • Strong project execution toolkit, including analysis, scoping, requirements gathering, delivery management, and change management.
  • Experience leading cross-functional business and technology initiatives in a complex environment.
  • Ability to bring structure to ambiguous problems and drive alignment across multiple stakeholder groups.

You Have an Advantage If:
  • You have experience in technology and/or software/cloud environments.
  • You have M&A integration and/or system implementation experience.
  • You have product and engineering exposure such as SDLC, pricing, migration, or new process rollout.
  • You possess strong leadership, diplomatic, and motivational skills and can lead across multiple business and technology organizations.
  • You have experience in a fast-paced and growing environment.
  • You hold a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • You are technically competent with business applications including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, JIRA, and Lucidchart.
  • You are familiar with SDLC, Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall methodologies.

Salary Range
$116,000 to $155,000
In accordance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (SB 19-085) the approximate compensation range for this role in Colorado is listed above. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors, such as knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Life at Ping:
We believe in and facilitate a flexible, collaborative work environment. We're growing quickly, but remain true to the innovative, can-do startup values that got us here.
