Job description

About Column
For companies building financial technology and transforming the financial services space, the biggest bottleneck to their growth and innovation is often the underlying banks and infrastructure stack they rely on. We have spent our careers founding and scaling companies like Plaid, Square, Meta, Blend, and Affirm, and have seen this problem firsthand - builders and developers needing to partner with traditional banks, and creating API and abstraction layers over the patchwork that is the bank, its core, and many other vendors. All of this results in a complex (and often expensive) banking supply chain involving a user, fintech, BaaS middleware provider, bank, core and the Federal Reserve.
At Column, we set out to simplify and fix this. We are a bank and a software company built from the ground up, offering builders and developers technology-forward banking solutions that cut out the hundreds of vendors, middleware providers, and abstraction layers. This means a safer, more transparent, and less costly banking supply chain. Come build with us!
The opportunity
Column's Growth team is focused on managing our highly strategic customer relationships. As a member of the Growth team, you'll be responsible for building and overseeing all aspects of our customer management while acting as a trusted partner, advisor and advocate for a wide variety of customers. You will also be in charge of designing and implementing the strategy, processes, and content needed to help us scale this key function.
Column's Growth team is not your typical Customer Success or Account Management team in that Column is a critical, often existential, partner for our customers, our customer relationships are deeply collaborative and complex, and each customer contributes meaningfully to our revenue. We're therefore looking for team members who are analytical, demonstrate great critical thinking, and have experience managing very strategic relationships.
This particular role will focus on Column's customers building credit and lending products on top of Column's infrastructure. You'll bring genuine fluency in credit and capital markets to a role that's highly cross-functional and collaborative, partnering closely with Column's Executive, Sales, Compliance, and Solutions Engineering teams to ensure customers are onboarded smoothly, that we can anticipate and address both issues and opportunities for growth, and that these relationships are healthy and mutually beneficial. You'll also represent the voice of the customer to help inform Column's strategy, including the product roadmap, go-to-market motions and more.
Success in this role also means having a desire to become an expert on the Financial Technology space and on how companies partner with Column (our customers include many key industry players such as Brex and Carta). This role reports to the Head of Growth and is an in-person role, where you'll be expected to work out of our San Francisco Presidio-based office 4+ days a week.
What you'll do
  • Own and manage relationships with Column's customers from onboarding through ongoing growth and expansion, primarily focusing on customers credit and lending products
  • Apply your credit and capital markets fluency to understand customer risk profiles, reserve requirements, underwriting considerations, and lending product structures
  • Partner closely with Column's Risk, Compliance, and Solutions Engineering teams to help customers navigate the regulatory and technical complexity of building lending products on Column
  • Build the playbooks, processes, and best practices for how Column's Growth team supports credit and lending customers
  • Represent the voice of the customer internally to inform Column's product roadmap for credit and lending infrastructure
  • Perform day-to-day activities consistent with safe and sound banking practices and regulatory requirements

What you'll need to be successful
  • 2-4+ years of experience in a credit, capital markets, or lending-adjacent role, examples include leveraged finance, FIG investment banking, direct lending or private credit investing, structured finance, or capital markets work at a fintech lender
  • Deep knowledge in how credit and lending products work. You understand things like reserve requirements, underwriting, return rates, and capital structures, and you're excited to apply that knowledge in a customer-facing context
  • A growth and critical thinking mindset: You're comfortable navigating ambiguous environments and are energized by the prospect of helping build processes with little guidance
  • Excellent project management: You're organized, can manage all aspects of partnering with customers, and effectively work with other internal teams.
  • Ability to turn naysayers into champions: You're a persuasive communicator and understand the importance of being helpful, responsive, and solutions-oriented.
  • Curiosity: You know what questions to ask to uncover and understand customer needs and proactively learn more about the industry, competitive landscape, and product offerings to better support your customers
  • Insatiable hunger for improvement: you're a naturally curious person, enjoy digging into the data, and regularly solicit feedback
What you'll get from us
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans, including options that are 100% covered by Column for you and 100% covered for your dependents!
  • Comprehensive family planning and fertility benefits via partnership with Carrot, including reimbursement of up to $20,000 in qualified expenses
  • Up to $2,000 (post-tax) monthly rent subsidy for employees living within 2 miles of Column's office
  • FSA and HSA account options to enable use of pre-tax money for medical and dependent care expenses
  • 401k plan, including self-directed brokerage options
  • Flexible time-off policy - take the time off that you want and need to relax and recharge
  • 100% paid parental leave, including 16 weeks for birth mothers, 12 weeks for primary caregivers, and 8 weeks for secondary caregivers
  • Up to $4,500 in annual reimbursements for backup childcare
  • Catered lunches and dinners for SF employees
  • Commuter benefits, including paid transportation to-and-from the office
  • Regular team building events, including annual offsite
Pay transparency
Compensation packages at Column include base salary, equity, and benefits. New hire offers are made based on a candidate's experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.
The annual base salary range for this position is $140,000 - $250,000 + equity.
We look forward to hearing from you
