Job description

Job Title: Transfer Driver

Reports To: Transportation Manager


Role Perks

Guaranteed Hours up to 32/week - If you complete all scheduled shifts in a week but your total hours worked are less than 32, the company will provide the additional hours needed to reach a total of 32. This ensures that you receive full-time compensation for your commitment to being present for the entire workweek.


Job purpose

The Transfer Driver plays a key role in ensuring the safe and timely movement of product from the warehouse to outlying dock locations throughout the state. As a Class A CDL driver, you will be supporting daily operations for the company to keep the corks popping and the taps flowing across the state. This includes loading and unloading trailers, verifying documentation, and maintaining compliance with all DOT and company safety regulations. Every route should reflect Tryon’s commitment to integrity, quality, and service excellence.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Perform all pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT and company safety standards, ensuring truck and load readiness before departure.
  • Gather, verify, and maintain all required delivery and transfer documentation.
  • Safely transport product to outlying dock locations across the state, obtain necessary signatures, and complete all delivery paperwork accurately.
  • Accept and process product returns from customers or dock locations, ensuring proper documentation and placement in designated return areas upon return to the warehouse.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse staff, and supervisors to report delays, route changes, or issues impacting deliveries.
  • Address and resolve customer or dock concerns in a professional manner, escalating unresolved issues to a supervisor when needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the assigned vehicle, reporting any maintenance, safety, or mechanical concerns promptly to supervision.


Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record
  • At least two years of CDL truck driving experience
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 100 lbs safely
  • Proficient in using mobile Proof of Delivery (POD) devices or similar technology
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and responsibly
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and safe work practices
  • Comfortable working in warehouse and delivery environments under varying weather conditions
  • Ability to drive through assigned routes in all weather and road conditions

PREFERRED

  • Over-the-road (OTR) CDL experience
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, including early mornings and occasional weekends, as needed
  • Experience operating material-handling equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, and pallet jacks
  • Prior experience in beverage distribution, logistics, or a related field

Working conditions

  • Warehouse dock: Loading, unloading, and staging products in a fast-paced warehouse environment. Noise level is typically moderate.
  • In vehicle: Operating a tractor-trailer while in route to and from customer or dock locations across assigned territories. This requires long periods of driving in various road and weather conditions.

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to stand and walk frequently (3-5 hours/day).
  • Must be able to drive through various weather and road conditions continually (5-8 hours/day). This does require the use of fine and gross motor skills.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, kneel, climb, reach, lift, or squat occasionally (1-4 hours/day).
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 20 lbs. continually (15+ loads/hour), 30 lbs. frequently (10-15 loads/hour), and 50 to 100 lbs. occasionally (1-10 loads/hour).
