Job description

Transcribes and edits documents, and performs quality assurance on transcribed and speech recognition dictation by physicians or other healthcare providers, using the actual dictation, in accordance with Boys Town National Research Hospital (BTNRH) Medical Transcription Department Style Guide.Hours:

Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm, position is remote after training.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Transcribes patient reports including inpatient and outpatient reports, completing these while maintaining accuracy and neatness, as well as meeting the accepted level of production established for the BTNRH Medical Transcription Department.
  • Edits transcribed and speech recognition documents and performs quality assurance, identifying and evaluating inconsistencies and inaccuracies in medical documents, and provides feedback to the document creator (medical transcriptionist).
  • Focuses on editing and formatting physician-dictated medical records, fixing grammatical errors, and improving content in an efficient and accurate manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to type 70 wpm.
  • Ability to apply a thorough knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people.
  • Ability to organize work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Ability to learn and/or previous experience using digital speech recognition dictation/transcription software.
  • Ability to work overtime when deadlines require it.
  • Ability to treat all information with strict confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work with many individuals who have differing professional backgrounds and must be able to organize workloads so that all deadlines are met.
  • Proficiency in advanced medical terminology.
  • Must have excellent spelling, punctuation, and grammar skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide quality feedback to staff in order to develop ongoing quality improvement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in medical transcription required.
  • Able to type 70 wpm accurately required.
  • Previous experience using digital speech recognition dictation/transcription software required.
  • Ability to work overtime and/or weekend hours as needed to meet deadlines required.
  • Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.
