Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Software Development Manager provides technical and delivery leadership for an assigned product line, driving execution across the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). This role builds and leads a high-performing engineering team while ensuring predictable, high-quality delivery aligned with product strategy and customer needs.
Operating within a JIRA-driven Agile environment, the Development Manager ensures backlog integrity, execution transparency, and strong collaboration across product, engineering, QA, and customer-facing teams. This position balances near-term delivery commitments with long-term platform health, scalability, and technical excellence.
TIME ALLOCATION

EXPECTED WORK AND PERFORMANCE (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Delivery & Execution

  • Own end-to-end delivery across product development initiatives and customer implementations
  • Drive sprint planning, execution, and release management to ensure commitments are met with high quality and predictability
  • Ensure work items in JIRA are clearly defined with appropriate scope, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and estimates
  • Enforce Definition of Done (DoD) standards to maintain consistency and quality
  • Proactively identify and mitigate delivery risks, blockers, and cross-team dependencies
  • Track, analyze, and improve delivery metrics such as velocity, cycle time, defect trends, and delivery predictability


JIRA & Agile Operating Model

  • Maintain disciplined backlog hygiene in JIRA with clear priorities and actionable work items
  • Partner closely with Product Management to align roadmap priorities, team capacity, and delivery timelines
  • Provide accurate status tracking, reporting, and visibility through JIRA boards and dashboards
  • Lead multiple, concurrent workstreams including feature development, defect resolution, and urgent production issues
  • Implement structured workflows to manage expedited or interrupt-driven work without disrupting planned delivery


Communication & Alignment

  • Establish and reinforce clear, consistent communication across engineering, product, QA, and customer-facing teams
  • Translate business objectives and requirements into clear technical direction and team priorities
  • Deliver transparent, timely updates on progress, risks, trade-offs, and delivery forecasts
  • Serve as the primary escalation and coordination point for delivery-related challenges


Technical Leadership

  • Lead design and architecture reviews to ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions
  • Champion engineering best practices, coding standards, and CI/CD processes
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance through code reviews, design feedback, and mentoring
  • Balance delivery speed with long-term system quality, resilience, and sustainability


People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineers while fostering ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Align work assignments to team strengths while proactively building new skills and capabilities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Prior experience as an Application Development Supervisor, Engineering Manager, or equivalent technical leadership role
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in full lifecycle enterprise software development, or 6 years with a Master’s degree
  • Proven experience operating in Agile/Scrum environments with JIRA as the primary delivery and tracking tool
  • Completion of ARGO Development, Installation, Operations, and applicable Specialty training tracks as required for the role
