(Human Services Associate)/ WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT - Part Time

HOURLY RANGE: $19.35- $23.56

Job Description:

Under general supervision, performs customer service, clerical, and administrative duties in support of the City's Workforce Development Center. Work involves screening client information, scheduling appointments, responding to inquiries, and preparing documents and forms. Employee is responsible for handling a variety of routine inquiries by telephone and in-person, maintaining a variety of records and files and generating and distributing various statistical data reports.

This non-supervisory position reports to the Coordinator/Supervisor of the SWDC.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience- High school diploma supplemented with post secondary coursework in subjects such as social work, human services, gerontology, or one of the social or behavioral sciences, business or related field, and relevant work experience in public administrative support work OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.. 

Preferred Qualifications:

-Prefer degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Resources or closely related field.

-Prefer experience assisting customers with employment and training activities inclusive of job search, resume writing, soft skills, job readiness skills, Virginia Workforce Connection registration, etc.

-Prefer working knowledge of workforce development and workforce training programs regarding special populations such as members of minority groups, veterans, the elderly, ex-offenders, and those individuals with disabilities

-Prefer demonstrated ability to communicate inter-personally orally and in writing and to maintain strong working relationships with community partners and program participants

-Prefer experience using various systems to create reports, business correspondence, and presentations.

-Experience in operational and administrative tasks associated with program management, including but not limited to, participant recruitment and registration, training delivery coordination, data entry and information and file management, and supplies ordering and inventory control.

-Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail-oriented professional. Possesses strong technology and computer skills. Requires a valid driver's license.

Special Requirements:

Applicants may be subject to a Criminal History Background search, Central Registry search, DMV/driving record check, and/or pre-employment drug screen. The investigation may include: fingerprint checks (State Police, FBI), local agency checks, employment verification and references, verification of education (relevant to employment), credit checks (relevant to employment) and other checks requested by the hiring authority. All offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory results of the required checks and screenings.

-Employee must be willing to work disaster related assignments, including emergency shelter duty, in the event of a natural disaster.
