Department: Front of House (FOH)
Reports To: General Manager
Location: CALA Scottsdale 
Position Summary
The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager in owning the daily performance, culture, and guest experience of CALA. This role is operationally hands-on and floor-driven. The AGM is responsible for executing standards, coaching managers and hourly team members, and ensuring the restaurant operates with consistency, urgency, and polish. The AGM is a culture carrier and accountability partner. When the GM sets direction, the AGM ensures it is executed flawlessly.

Operational Leadership

  • Lead service shifts with visible, proactive floor presence.
  • Ensure Sequence of Service is executed consistently across all FOH roles.
  • Support pacing, table management, and guest flow during peak hours.
  • Step into service recovery situations immediately and professionally.
  • Monitor service timing, ticket flow, and overall dining room energy.
Team Development

  • Assist in hiring, onboarding, and training FOH team members.
  • Coach in real time during service — tone, posture, sales language, urgency.
  • Conduct follow-up training and performance documentation as needed.
  • Reinforce menu knowledge, wine education, and upselling standards.
  • Hold team members accountable to grooming and uniform policies.
Financial & Administrative Support

  • Assist with labor management and shift coverage.
  • Monitor daily sales, comps, voids, and discounts in Toast.
  • Protect profitability by reducing errors and preventing waste.
  • Support inventory processes in coordination with Bar Manager and BOH leadership.
Guest Experience Ownership

  • Conduct table touches throughout every shift.
  • Build relationships with VIP and repeat guests.
  • Ensure brand ambiance standards: lighting, music, cleanliness, scent, temperature.
  • Maintain a calm and commanding presence during high-volume periods.
Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of upscale dining management experience.
  • Strong floor leadership presence.
  • Working knowledge of Toast POS.
  • Excellent communication and coaching ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in high-pressure environments.
  • Wine and spirits knowledge preferred.
  • Arizona Food Handlers and Manager Certification (required).
Physical & Scheduling Requirements

  • Ability to stand and move for extended shifts.
  • Nights, weekends, and holidays required.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs when necessary.
  • Must maintain consistent floor presence during peak service.
