Job description

MASTER’S LEVEL CLINICAL TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP

Are you looking for a Master’s Level Training & Development Internship? Wheeler offers internship opportunities for graduate students interested in organizational learning, workforce development, employee engagement, and professional training within a behavioral health and human services environment. Interns will gain hands-on experience supporting agency-wide learning initiatives that serve a diverse workforce dedicated to improving the health and wellness of underserved communities across Connecticut.

Interns will have the opportunity to assist with the development, coordination, and delivery of staff training and professional development and certification programs. Responsibilities may include supporting orientation activities, creating training materials and presentations, assisting with learning management systems, evaluating training effectiveness, and collaborating with leadership and subject matter experts on workforce development initiatives.

Within the internship experience, interns will also have the opportunity to train and shadow with our clinical team(s) and program leadership to learn a variety of therapeutic modalities, techniques, and approaches. Interns will receive practical hands-on training to learn how to access and utilize the agency's Electronic Health Record, how to conduct and complete individualized treatment planning, and will also have the opportunity to learn about resume building and preparation to enter into the behavioral health workforce.

The internship opportunity may also include experience in training coordination, instructional design, employee engagement initiatives, leadership development, and organizational communication. Interns will have opportunities to shadow members of the Training & Development and Human Resources teams to learn a variety of approaches to talent development and organizational learning within an integrated healthcare setting. Interns will receive practical hands-on experience in:

  • Training coordination and facilitation for Behavioral Health staff
  • Curriculum and content development for In-Home, Community-Based, and Health & Wellness program staff
  • Learning management systems and training documentation
  • Special Projects directed towards engagement and enhancement of continuing education for professional licensed staff
  • Training program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Process improvement projects aligned with Wheeler strategic goals
  • Receive clinical supervision from Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Please be advised that what is listed below is mandatory. If you are unable to attend or commit, we regret that we will not be able to offer you the internship opportunity.

1.Virtual attendance at the Intern Seminar which is twice a month on Friday from 10am-12pm on Teams (this will count as group supervision)

2. Must attend the full in person orientation which consists of 3 eight hour days located at our Bristol location. The dates are 8/31 (830-430pm) 9/1 and 9/2 (9am-5pm)

3. Regular placement attendance throughout the internship regardless of school vacation calendar (we do not honor 6 weeks off between semesters)

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must be currently enrolled in a university master’s program for Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
