Job Description

The Associate Director of Oncology Training is responsible for the team developing and delivering the sales franchise curriculum for AbbVie US customer facing teams. This person will lead the development and delivery of the annual training strategy that aligns to our brand marketing strategic imperatives. This person will lead and work within cross functional teams made of participants from Training, Medical/ Clinical experts, Marketing, Sales Management, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, Market Access, other AbbVie Groups, and external vendor partners. They must be confident in and comfortable with cross functional team structure and adept at collaboration /influence management. This person will have fiscal responsibility for multiple budgets. This leader will be responsible for the development of their direct reports, by ensuring a customized onboarding plan is developed and followed. This person will work closely with cross functional partners and training leadership to create an engaging, high performing culture. Position will also require person to provide training design / development support. Leads and manages initiative and program design efforts involving external and internal organizations.

This person must also:

  • Effectively represent the Field Training leadership team
  • Build and lead a team of highly effective trainers that build curriculum that fosters development of AbbVie Leadership Attributes and advances selling capabilities to drive performance within assigned sales franchises.
  • Be adept at using and applying artificial intelligence, adaptive learning and experiential training approaches
  • Develop and implement a proactive approach to measuring the impact of learning. Utilize data to inform updates in curriculum and to design future learning approaches
  • Interact with and influence all levels of line management to plan, design and develop learning strategies that will contribute to the achievement of related business objectives for assigned sales franchises.
  • Demonstrates a passion for driving excellence, with a focus on performance results that fosters accountability within self, direct reports, the Field Training department, commercial stakeholders, nurse ambassadors and training participants.
  • Leading / Driving the training strategy process, including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of performance focused training curricula to continuously improve the capabilities of the US Sales Organization.
  • Developing the franchise training team through effective coaching and leadership for success in current trainer role and for future commercial leadership opportunities.
  • Building effective relationships to work collaboratively with Senior Commercial Management, Cross-functional partners, Marketing, T&D and other groups leading AbbVie learning initiatives, to drive performance through consistent development and delivery of effective commercial training.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 8-15 years’ experience in pharmaceutical / healthcare sales and sales management with demonstrated success in developing & leading effective sales teams required.
  • Experience in Heme Onc and/or Multiple Myeloma is strongly preferred.
  • Experience building launch training journey and curriculum strongly preferred
  • Technical degree preferred or a degree in business or related field is acceptable if combined with relevant training and sales or experiences
  • Experience in commercial or medical training required.
  • Knowledge of instructional design systems or extensive experience in training, development of training and curriculum design
  • Strategic thinking & business planning skills, necessary to diagnose needs, develop, direct, and influence commercial training and organizational development strategies.
  • Project management experience, managing cross-functional teams and/or external partners through large projects or initiatives.
