Women's Shelter Manager

Reports to: Operations Manager

Horelyu Dene Ts'edi Kue is seeking an experienced Women's Shelter Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our 24/7 Women's Shelter.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring the shelter operates safely and consistently, staff are supported and accountable, and women accessing the shelter receive respectful, trauma-informed and culturally appropriate support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Women's Shelter.
  • Supervise, schedule and provide direction to Shelter Attendants, ensuring appropriate 24/7 coverage.
  • Address staffing, attendance and operational issues as they arise.
  • Oversee resident intake, admissions, safety planning and discharge processes.
  • Ensure resident files, shift logs, incident reports and other required documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Provide leadership and direction during resident crises, serious incidents and emergencies.
  • Ensure shelter policies, safety procedures, confidentiality requirements and professional standards are followed.
  • Work closely with Family Support and other programs to connect residents with appropriate services and resources.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful and culturally welcoming shelter environment.
  • Keep the Operations Manager informed of significant staffing, resident, safety and operational matters.
  • Support staff training, development and continuous improvement of shelter operations.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in shelter services, family violence, crisis intervention, social services, housing or a related field.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience, preferably in a residential, shelter or 24/7 service environment.
  • Degree or diploma in Social Work, Human Services, Community Services, Indigenous Studies or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong leadership, communication, judgment, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Experience supporting women experiencing violence, homelessness, trauma or other complex circumstances.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally safe practices.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities is considered an asset.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Willingness to complete required shelter-specific and safety training.
  • Flexibility to respond to urgent staffing or operational matters outside regular working hours when necessary due to the 24/7 nature of the shelter.
