Job description

The Assistant Ski Patrol Director supports the Ski Patrol Director in leading all aspects of ski patrol operations, including mountain safety, emergency medical response, avalanche mitigation, staff leadership, and daily operational planning. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe mountain environment while supporting patrol training, personnel development, and cross-department collaboration. The Assistant Ski Patrol Director serves as the acting department leader in the Director's absence and helps oversee summer Bike Patrol operations, trail projects, and other mountain operations initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading daily Ski Patrol operations, including staffing, terrain coverage, incident response, and operational planning
  • Serve as acting Ski Patrol Director in the Director's absence, ensuring safe and efficient mountain operations
  • Supervise, coach, and support Ski Patrol team members through training, performance feedback, and professional development
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, timekeeping, and staffing plans
  • Participate in department meetings, operational planning, and leadership initiatives
  • Support the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and training programs
  • Oversee mountain safety through hazard identification, boundary management, hazard marking, and risk mitigation
  • Lead and participate in avalanche mitigation, lift evacuations, rescue operations, and critical incident response
  • Maintain patrol certifications and training programs in coordination with the Patrol Medical Committee and the National Ski Patrol
  • Coordinate with Snow Safety, Grooming, Snowmaking, Competition Services, and other Mountain Operations departments to support safe and efficient resort operations
  • Lead or assist with incident investigations and ensure accurate documentation and reporting
  • Oversee Bike Patrol operations, training, and summer patrol activities, including trail projects and mountain support functions
  • Build positive working relationships with local law enforcement, fire, EMS, and emergency response agencies
  • Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, accountability, and exceptional guest service
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), EMT, or higher medical certification required
  • Minimum three to five years of ski patrol experience; previous leadership experience preferred
  • Avalanche Level 1 certification required; Avalanche Level 2 preferred
  • ICS 200 certification or higher preferred
  • Rigging for Rescue training or equivalent rescue experience preferred
  • Experience serving in Incident Command or critical incident leadership roles preferred
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills in high-pressure environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid U.S. driverโ€™s licenseย required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and the ability to learn department-specific software
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Mountain Operations departments
  • Ability to work outdoors in alpine environments during all weatherย conditions, including snow, rain, wind, heat, lightning, and extreme cold
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as operational needs require
