Job description

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer with extensive experience in engine-driven rotating equipment systems to join a dynamic engineering team. This role serves as a technical authority for packaged rotating machinery including gas/diesel engine-driven compressors, pumps, and generators used across industrial and energy applications.

The ideal candidate will support equipment specification, design review, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and lifecycle engineering while collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, production, and quality teams.


Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Technical Leadership
  • Lead the selection, specification, and evaluation of engine-driven rotating equipment packages.

  • Develop and review equipment datasheets, technical specifications, requisitions, and vendor documentation.

  • Review performance curves, vibration analysis reports, design calculations, and engine ratings.

  • Ensure compliance with API, ISO, ASME, and OEM standards.

  • Support development of control narratives, control system checks, and testing procedures.

Maintenance, Reliability & Troubleshooting
  • Support equipment alignment, mounting, foundation, and skid design activities.

  • Develop maintenance strategies and reliability improvement programs.

  • Conduct root cause failure analysis and resolve rotating equipment issues to minimize downtime.

  • Troubleshoot compressors, pumps, generators, engines, and related auxiliary systems.

Procurement & Vendor Coordination
  • Prepare detailed equipment specifications and purchase documentation.

  • Evaluate vendor proposals and coordinate with OEMs and package suppliers.

  • Verify equipment readiness for factory acceptance testing and commissioning.

Testing & Commissioning
  • Oversee testing and commissioning activities to ensure performance requirements are achieved.

  • Develop and maintain testing work instructions and inspection/test plans (ITPs).

  • Coordinate with production, quality control, and testing teams for execution readiness.

  • Analyze test data and records for compliance and performance validation.

Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure safe design, installation, operation, and maintenance of rotating equipment systems.

  • Promote adherence to OSHA and company safety standards.

  • Recommend process improvements related to safety, reliability, and testing procedures.

Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across disciplines.

  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, process, and production teams.

  • Support customer interactions during testing, commissioning, and quotation activities.

Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current with advancements in rotating equipment technologies.

  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiency, reliability enhancement, and cost reduction.


Required Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong experience with large gas and diesel engine drivers.

  • Experience with reciprocating compressors, pumps, generators, motors, and skid-mounted systems.

  • Knowledge of API, ASME, NEC/IEC/CSA standards and rotating equipment best practices.

  • Understanding of rotor dynamics, vibration, lubrication systems, sealing systems, and alignment.

  • Strong troubleshooting, testing, and field service capabilities.

  • Excellent customer communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • 8-15+ years of experience in rotating equipment engineering.

  • Experience working with major OEMs and rotating equipment package vendors.

  • Hands-on experience in industrial or energy-sector applications preferred.


Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel for meetings, commissioning, startup support, and field service activities.

  • Prepare detailed field service reports and maintain site visit documentation.

  • Perform additional technical duties as required.
