Job description

Position:  Network Engineer - Level II

Location: Rosslyn, VA

Clearance:  Secret

 
The Network Engineer Level II is a mid-level IT professional responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining network systems to ensure reliable and secure connectivity across the organization. This role involves troubleshooting complex network issues, optimizing performance, and supporting the deployment of new network technologies. The Level II engineer collaborates with IT teams to ensure the network infrastructure meets organizational needs and complies with security standards. Duties are:
  • Design, configure, and maintain network systems, including LANs, WANs, and wireless networks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues to minimize downtime and disruptions.
  • Monitor network performance and implement optimizations to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Support the deployment and integration of new network technologies and upgrades.
  • Configure and manage network security tools, such as firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Document network configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Conduct regular audits of network systems to ensure compliance with organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to integrate network systems with other enterprise technologies.
  •  Provide technical guidance and support to junior network engineers and IT staff.
  • Stay updated on emerging networking technologies and recommend improvements to the infrastructure.
Professional Qualifications/Skills  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 years of experience in network engineering or a related IT role.
  • 3 years of experience with network hardware, including routers, switches, and firewalls 
  • Proficiency in networking protocols, such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, and VLANs.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and tools. Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools, such as SolarWinds or Cisco Prime.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or CompTIA Network+, are preferred.
  • CISSP, GSEC or GYSA+  
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Salary up to $188,000, depending on qualifications, including relevant certifications, education, years of experience, and demonstrated experience supporting Federal Government programs within the field. Candidates with specialized expertise, industry-recognized certifications, and strong Federal contracting experience may be considered at the higher end of the range.
