Job description

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a Director of Research to join the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine. This tenure-track position offers academic rank and salary commensurate with experience.

Position Overview

The Division of Hospital Medicine is seeking an exceptional scholar to develop a nationally recognized research program. The Director of Research will lead efforts to expand research infrastructure and enhance the divisions focus on health services, quality improvement, operational excellence, and education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research Leadership: Develop, implement, and monitor a research strategic plan.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Guide faculty, trainees, and students in research methodology, project execution, and publication.
  • Grant & Funding Support: Identify funding sources, facilitate grant writing, and foster collaborative research opportunities.
  • Administrative Oversight: Manage research budgets, staff, and research reports while serving on key committees.
  • Scholarly Contribution: Maintain an externally funded research program with impact on Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine.

Division & Department Overview

The Division of Hospital Medicine at Ohio State is a dynamic and growing department dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based patient care. With 170+ faculty and staff, the division oversees 16,000+ admissions and 149,000+ patient encounters annually across seven hospitals. Faculty have access to world-class resources, comprehensive cancer care, and cutting-edge subspecialists.

Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
  • MD, DO, MBBS, or equivalent with formal training in a relevant discipline.
  • Ability to obtain a full medical license in Ohio.
  • Active, externally funded research program in basic, translational, clinical, or health services research.
  • Strong record of scholarly achievement, including publications and grant funding.
  • Experience in research mentorship.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative research experience at local, regional, or national levels.
Preferred:
  • PhD, MPH, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in research administration.
  • Editorial board experience or current journal editor.
  • Qualifications for Associate Professor or Professor rank
