Staff Electrical Engineer - High Voltage Systems

SirenOpt

San Leandro, CA

Full-time

Re-posted 5 days ago

Job description

Role Overview

SirenOpt is looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer - High Voltage Systems to help architect, design, and validate the high-voltage electrical systems behind our next-generation metrology platform.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who enjoys working close to the technology, solving hard problems quickly, and helping shape products in an early-stage startup environment.

This role is ideal for an engineer who is energized by deep tech, thrives in cross-functional environments, and is motivated by the opportunity to build something genuinely new.

You will work closely with a small, highly capable team to turn advanced plasma science into robust, manufacturable, field-ready systems.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and contribute to the electrical design and validation of SirenOpt's plasma-based metrology systems.
  • Design high-voltage and mixed-signal electronics from concept through schematic capture, layout guidance, bring-up, debug, testing, and integration.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, systems, software, algorithm, and project engineers to develop reliable and scalable products.
  • Research and evaluate new concepts, components, and architectures for advanced low-temperature plasma instrumentation.
  • Work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to refine designs based on real-world use, integration needs, and product feedback.
  • Create and maintain core technical documentation, including requirements, schematics, wiring diagrams, validation plans, and test reports.
  • Help translate frontier R&D into practical hardware that can perform in demanding industrial environments.

What We're Looking For

  • B.S., M.S., or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong experience in high-voltage PCB design, ideally above 5 kV.
  • Hands-on experience across the full PCB development cycle, including concept, schematics, layout, manufacturing support, bring-up, testing, and HW/SW integration.
  • Experience with mixed-signal designs that combine analog, digital, and high-voltage circuitry.
  • Familiarity with DfX practices such as DFM and DFT, along with structured engineering review processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, multidisciplinary environment with a high degree of ownership.
  • Strong communication skills and a practical, problem-solving mindset.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in electron optics, electron beam systems, plasma systems, or similar high-voltage applications.
  • Familiarity with CE, UL, or other regulatory compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with high-precision industrial systems used in metrology, automation, or advanced material processing.
  • Exposure to metrology sensors or instrumentation for advanced materials.

Why Join SirenOpt

  • Help define a new category in advanced materials metrology.
  • Work on genuinely novel deep-tech hardware with real scientific and industrial impact.
  • Join an early-stage team where your decisions directly shape the product, technology, and company.
  • Build systems at the intersection of plasma science, electronics, sensing, and AI-driven analytics.
  • Contribute to technology that can expand what researchers and industry teams are able to see, measure, and optimize.

Actual compensation within the pay range listed will be decided based on factors including skills and prior relevant experience.
