Trainee Fly In Fly Out information

What is a trainee fly in fly out?

Trainee Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) roles are entry-level positions in industries like mining, construction, or oil and gas, where employees travel to remote work sites for a set period and then return home for their time off. These roles are designed for newcomers to gain practical on-the-job experience under supervision. FIFO trainees typically work on a roster system, such as two weeks on and one week off, and may receive training in various operational tasks, safety procedures, and equipment use. These positions can lead to more specialized or senior roles within the industry after sufficient experience and training.

What are the typical challenges faced by a trainee fly in fly out worker during their initial assignments?

Trainee FIFO workers often encounter challenges such as adapting to extended periods away from home, managing fatigue due to shift work, and acclimating to remote living conditions. The initial adjustment to a structured roster, such as two weeks on and one week off, can be difficult, especially for those new to the industry. Building strong communication skills and a support network both onsite and at home is essential for maintaining well-being and successfully integrating into the team environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a trainee fly in fly out, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Trainee Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) worker, you need a high school diploma or equivalent, basic literacy and numeracy, and the ability to follow safety protocols. Familiarity with workplace safety systems, site-specific induction training, and certifications such as White Card or First Aid may be required. Strong communication, teamwork, and resilience are crucial soft skills for adapting to remote environments and shift-based work. These competencies ensure safety, productivity, and positive collaboration while working in challenging and isolated FIFO conditions.

What is the difference between Trainee Fly In Fly Out vs Trainee Mine Site Worker?

AspectTrainee Fly In Fly OutTrainee Mine Site Worker
Work EnvironmentRemote locations, rotating shifts, fly-in fly-out scheduleOn-site at mining sites, often in remote areas
Required CredentialsBasic training, safety certifications, relevant courseworkSafety certifications, technical training, possibly apprenticeships
Employer & Industry UsageMining companies, resource sectors with FIFO operationsMining companies, resource extraction industries

While both roles involve working in mining environments, Trainee Fly In Fly Out positions focus on remote, rotational schedules with travel logistics, whereas Trainee Mine Site Workers are primarily based on-site, performing hands-on tasks at the mine. The credentials overlap in safety and technical training, but FIFO roles emphasize logistical coordination, making the roles distinct in work setup and environment.

Job description

Delta Group is an ambitious and fast-growing player in international pharmaceutical distribution.

From our European network and a team of 40 colleagues, we ensure that hospitals always have access to the right medicines at the right time.

Within this group, Orphamed represents the young, Belgian beating heart: a scale‑up with a warm, family‑oriented culture, yet driven, ambitious and highly result‑focused.

We combine speed, scalability and logistical flexibility with a strong commercial drive and a clear ambition: to become the European number one in our sector.

Our culture is highly performance‑driven: we closely monitor results and value people who take ownership and make impact.

We celebrate success together (from ringing the gong for a big deal to team BBQs), because we believe that hard work and enjoyment go hand in hand.

Pharma Market Germany/Austria Your role

As a Junior Account Manager for the German/Austrian market, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to Orphamed’s European growth story.

We’re looking for someone with a strong connection to Germany/Austria through language, culture or professional background, ensuring smooth communication and long‑term relationships with our customers and partners.

Familiarity with the German/Austrian pharmaceutical market is an advantage, though not a requirement.

You’ll get to know the hospital and pharma world from the inside out, develop your commercial and analytical skills, and gradually grow into a full‑fledged Account Manager role.

You’ll work in an international environment, closely collaborating with colleagues from different countries, and will have plenty of room to take responsibility and deliver measurable results. You will work 90% inhouse from our offices in Bilzen.

Your responsibilities
  • Build strong, long‑term relationships with hospitals and their pharmaceutical buyers in Germany/Austria
  • Analyse the market and identify growth opportunities using our master tracker
  • Proactively reach out to existing and new customers to introduce our pharmaceutical products
  • Negotiate offers and follow up on all steps from initial contact to final order
  • Maintain daily communication with clients (email, phone, online meetings) and visit them several times per year
  • Represent Orphamed at international trade fairs and events (3–4 times per year)
  • Ensure accurate administrative follow‑up and report to the Commercial Operations Manager
  • Collaborate closely with our enthusiastic team of Account Managers toward one goal: growth, customer satisfaction and strong results
Your profile
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree in economics, business, or IT – or equivalent through experience
  • You are a native German speaker (or equivalent through study/experience), preferably with German/Austrian roots or professional ties to Germany/Austria and you communicate fluently in English. Knowledge of Dutch is an asset
  • You have a strong analytical mindset and can easily translate data into commercial insights
  • You are digitally savvy, with solid skills in Microsoft Excel and other IT tools
  • You are driven, eager to learn, and results‑oriented– someone with a hunger to grow in a company that tracks performance closely and rewards impact
  • You are commercially minded and communicative, with a natural flair for building relationships
  • Preferably, you already have some initial commercial experience, but motivated young talents with potential are equally welcome
What we offer
  • A permanent full‑time contract with an attractive salary package (fixed + variable) including meal and eco vouchers
  • A fuel card from day one, and after one year, an electric company car (BMW i‑series)
  • Extensive internal training and close coaching by our management team
  • Biannual evaluations and genuine growth opportunities within a fast‑expanding international organization
  • An entrepreneurial work environment where hard work and fun go hand in hand
  • The opportunity to work in a state‑of‑the‑art new office in Bilzen, Belgium (opening spring 2026)
  • Relocation assistance can be provided to help candidates from abroad find suitable housing in the Bilzen area (Belgium)
