The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Highly motivated and experienced registered nurse with a strong background in clinical informatics. This role is crucial for the successful implementation, optimization, and adoption of healthcare technologies across our academic medical center/enterprise health system. The Clinical Informatics Nurse Specialist ensures that new systems are implemented, adopted and improve workflow efficiency. This position requires a deep understanding of nursing processes, clinical workflows, and the technical aspects of healthcare information systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Technology Implementation & Optimization:

  • Project Lifecycle Leadership: Facilitate and participate in all phases of the technology implementation lifecycle, from initial needs assessment to post-implementation evaluation and ongoing optimization. This includes defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with clinical and IT stakeholders.

  • System Design & Configuration: Collaborate closely with IT analysts, developers, and vendors to design clinical information systems (e.g., EHR modules, specialized clinical applications, telehealth platforms) to align with clinical best practices.

  • Workflow Analysis & Redesign: Conduct comprehensive current-state and future-state workflow analyses across various clinical departments. Identify critical touchpoints, potential bottlenecks, and opportunities for process standardization and improvement through the strategic integration of new technology. Facilitate interdisciplinary discussions to achieve consensus on optimized workflows.

  • Testing & Validation: Develop and execute rigorous testing plans, including unit testing, integrated testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT), to ensure system functionality, data integrity, and clinical safety. Document test results, identify defects, and work with technical teams for resolution.

  • Data Migration & Interoperability: Participate in planning and validating data migration strategies for new systems. Collaborate with integration teams to ensure seamless data exchange and interoperability between new and existing systems.

  • Go-Live Planning & Support: Participate in the development of detailed go-live plans, including communication strategies, and on-site support models. Provide direct, hands-on support to clinical end-users during system launches, addressing immediate issues and providing real-time guidance.

  • Post-Implementation Evaluation & Optimization: Monitor system performance and user adoption immediate post-implementation. Collect feedback from end-users, analyze system utilization data, and identify areas for further optimization, enhancements, or additional training to maximize the value of the technology.

Clinical Workflow & Process Improvement:

  • Analyze current clinical workflows and identify areas where technology can enhance efficiency, safety, and quality of care.

  • Design and implement standardized clinical processes in conjunction with new technology.

  • Evaluate the impact of implemented technologies on clinical practice and patient outcomes.

Education & Training:

  • Provide ongoing support and education to end-users, acting as a super-user and subject matter expert.

  • Assess training effectiveness and adapt strategies as needed to ensure high adoption rates.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Foster strong relationships with clinical leaders, frontline staff, IT professionals, and project managers.

  • Facilitate communication between clinical and technical teams to bridge gaps and ensure alignment of goals.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary committees and workgroups related to clinical technology and informatics.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • BSN required

  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred in Nursing Informatics, Health Informatics, or a closely related field from an accredited institution preferred.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of recent clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting required.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical informatics role, with demonstrated involvement in technology implementation projects within an academic medical center or large enterprise health system required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Profound understanding of clinical workflows, patient care processes, and healthcare delivery models required.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate clinical needs into technical requirements required.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging with diverse stakeholders required.

  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic) and other clinical applications required.

  • Experience with project management methodologies and tools required.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment required.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and drive adoption of new technologies required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York required.
