What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Trailer Leasing, and why are they important?

To thrive in Trailer Leasing, you need a solid understanding of transportation logistics, lease agreements, and fleet management, often supported by experience in commercial vehicle leasing or a related field. Strong negotiation, customer service, and problem-solving skills help build client relationships and address unique leasing needs. These competencies ensure efficient asset utilization, regulatory compliance, and high customer satisfaction in a competitive industry.

What is trailer leasing?

Trailer leasing is a service that allows individuals or businesses to rent trailers for a specific period, rather than purchasing them outright. This option provides flexibility and helps companies manage their fleet costs more efficiently by only paying for the equipment when it's needed. Trailer leasing can include different types of trailers, such as dry vans, flatbeds, or refrigerated trailers, and often comes with maintenance and support services. It's commonly used in transportation, logistics, and construction industries to meet short-term or fluctuating demands.

What are some typical challenges faced in a trailer leasing role, and how can new employees effectively address them?

One common challenge in trailer leasing is managing fluctuating customer demand while ensuring high fleet utilization and maintenance standards. New employees can address this by developing strong organizational skills, staying proactive with scheduling, and building good relationships with customers and service vendors. It’s also important to stay updated on industry regulations and safety requirements, as compliance is key. Collaborating closely with operations, sales, and maintenance teams will help ensure smooth processes and customer satisfaction.

Job description

Are you an experienced B2B sales professional with a strong track record in territory development and solution selling? Do you thrive in an environment where you are continually challenged, and the atmosphere is affirming. How about a place where growth, initiative, and relationships are valued and rewarded? If so, we want you on our team.

Who We Are

Premier Trailer Leasing is a nationally recognized leader in trailer leasing and rental, and proudly named a USA Today Top Workplace. We specialize in long-term leasing and short-term rentals of over-the-road vans, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, and chassis with over 65,000+ trailers supported through a growing coast-to-coast branch network across the United States. At Premier, you’ll join a performance-driven culture rooted in C.A.R.E: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, and Empowerment.

Your Role

As a Sales Representative, you will own and grow your assigned territory by proactively cultivating customer relationships, driving strategic outreach, and delivering tailored leasing and rental solutions. You’ll be responsible for expanding business within both new and existing accounts while serving as a trusted voice of Premier.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Execute a disciplined sales cadence, including weekly strategic calls and targeted client visits to communicate our value proposition.
  • Generate and develop new business through weekly outreach (including cold calling and prospect engagement).
  • Partner with customers to understand their operational needs and recommend tailored solutions — including rent, lease, and ancillary services.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships at multiple levels within customer organizations.
  • Maintain accurate sales activity and customer records in our CRM.
  • Deliver weekly territory plans, pipeline updates, and performance reporting to leadership.
  • Ensure timely collections and account status management.
  • Support cross-functional efforts with other branches and departments as needed.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of successful outside B2B sales experience, ideally in transportation, leasing, equipment, fleet services, logistics, or adjacent industries.
  • Proven territory management expertise with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Comfortable with time on the road — travel is required to build customer relationships in your assigned territory.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and consultative sales skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Motivated, self-starter with excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Experience with CRM tools and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
