The Opportunity

The Community Service and Parking Enforcement Officer support the Campus Safety & Security Department by providing non-emergency safety services to the Daytona Beach campus community. This role is primarily responsible for parking and traffic enforcement while delivering high-level customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

This position contributes to maintaining a safe and secure campus environment through routine patrols, enforcement of university parking regulations, and assistance with non-criminal incidents. The role does not require a security license and is restricted from responding to calls outside the defined scope of duties.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Performing parking and traffic enforcement, including use of automated license plate reader (ALPR) technology
  • Conducting regular patrols to identify safety hazards and security concerns
  • Securing buildings, providing access requests, and safeguarding property
  • Completing incident reports and required department documentation
  • Responding to private property accident reports, motorist assists, animal complaints, and lost article reports
  • Providing escorts and non-emergency transports
  • Assisting with special events and community outreach

This is a 24-hour operation requiring shift coverage. C-shift hours are 10:00 p.m. 7:00 a.m., and occasional unscheduled overtime may be required based on university needs.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • High school diploma or GED
  • High school-level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition, and math

Required Experience

  • 13 years of related work experience

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • Must meet University standards for approved drivers
  • No felony convictions

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to write legibly and complete reports
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously (radio, phone, and in-person communication)
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and co-workers
  • Ability to resolve complaints using tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions and around vehicular traffic
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift 1025 pounds
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and basic office/computer equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior law enforcement, military police, or corrections experience
  • Experience with T-2 and ALPR technology
