Tradewinds are steady, persistent winds that blow from east to west just north and south of the equator, typically between about 30 degrees north and 30 degrees south latitude. These winds have been historically important for maritime navigation, helping ships travel across the oceans. Tradewinds are caused by the rotation of the Earth and the differential heating of the planet's surface, resulting in predictable wind patterns. They play a crucial role in weather systems and the global climate.
