Trademark Associate Attorney

Locations: New York, NY | Seattle, WA
Salary: $215,000–$290,000

Direct Counsel is seeking a Trademark Associate Attorney to join a leading national law firm's Intellectual Property practice. This opportunity is ideal for a junior to mid-level attorney with 2–5 years of trademark experience who is interested in working with leading technology, media, entertainment, retail, food and beverage, and consumer brands on sophisticated trademark and brand protection matters.

The successful candidate will work directly with clients and experienced trademark attorneys on domestic and international portfolio management, prosecution, enforcement, and transactional IP matters.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct U.S. trademark clearance searches and preliminary multinational searches, analyze results, and prepare trademark search opinions.
  • Manage domestic and international trademark prosecution matters, including preparing and responding to Office Actions.
  • Assist with trademark enforcement matters, including cease-and-desist letters, investigations, and enforcement strategy.
  • Support Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) proceedings, including drafting discovery requests and motions, reviewing discovery responses, conducting investigations, and organizing evidence.
  • Advise clients on trademark portfolio strategy, brand protection, and related intellectual property matters.
  • Coordinate with foreign counsel on international trademark filings and portfolio management.
  • Assist with UDRP proceedings, including drafting complaints and answers and preparing supporting appendices.
  • Assist with copyright registration matters and provide preliminary guidance on copyright-related issues.
  • Draft and review trademark and copyright licenses, assignments, and related agreements.
  • Assist with IP due diligence and other intellectual property matters arising in corporate transactions.
  • Work closely with partners and clients on a broad range of trademark counseling and enforcement matters.
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction or eligibility to waive in.
  • 2–5 years of experience practicing trademark law at a law firm.
  • Experience with U.S. and multinational trademark clearance, including familiarity with SAEGIS and/or Corsearch databases.
  • Experience with U.S. and foreign trademark prosecution.
  • Experience with TTAB proceedings and trademark enforcement matters.
  • Experience with IP due diligence and corporate transaction support.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and investigative skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, clients, and foreign counsel.
