Job description

Litigation Associate (1+ Yrs Exp)

$120,000 - $210,000 per year | Tacoma, WA | Hybrid | Permanent

Hybrid Schedule (2 Days in Office) - Manageable Billables A bit about us:

We are a respected litigation firm with offices in the Pacific Northwest, known for our deep expertise in civil trial work and our commitment to client advocacy. Our team handles a wide range of complex litigation matters, including medical malpractice, personal injury, employment law, and commercial disputes. We pride ourselves on our collaborative culture, courtroom excellence, and dedication to professional growth.

Why join us?

We offer a flexible hybrid work model with just two in-office days per week after onboarding, allowing for a healthy work‑life balance. Our attorneys benefit from hands‑on litigation experience, a clear path to advancement, and a supportive team environment. With a competitive salary, generous benefits, and a bonus‑eligible structure tied to a manageable billable target, we provide the tools and support you need to thrive.

Job Details

We are looking for an experienced litigation associate to join a well‑established civil defense firm with a strong focus on healthcare and medical professional liability matters. This is a role for someone who wants to be in the thick of it — depositions, motion practice, hearings, and trial — not someone looking to draft documents in the background and wait for a seat at the table. You'll carry your own caseload with the support of seasoned colleagues, and you'll have genuine opportunities to develop as a trial attorney. If you've been in litigation long enough to know what you want out of a firm and this sounds like it, we'd like to talk.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage an active civil litigation caseload from intake through resolution or trial
  • Conduct depositions, defend clients at hearings, and participate in trial as lead or supporting counsel
  • Draft and argue motions, pleadings, discovery, and dispositive filings
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships; communicate regularly on case strategy and status
  • Work collaboratively with partners and senior attorneys while managing your own deadlines independently
  • Engage with experts, opposing counsel, and court staff with professionalism and precision
  • Contribute to a team‑oriented environment where attorneys support one another across matters
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1+ years of civil litigation experience, with a strong preference for medical malpractice or healthcare liability defense
  • Strong litigation instincts across the full lifecycle of a case — not just discrete tasks
  • Demonstrated experience with depositions, motion practice, and courtroom advocacy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Comfortable managing a busy docket and multiple simultaneous deadlines
  • Collaborative by nature; able to work within a team structure while owning your own matters
  • Defense‑side background preferred; plaintiff‑side attorneys with transferable skills will be considered
REQUIREMENTS
  • Active WA bar license in good standing
  • 1+ years of litigation experience in a law firm setting
  • Hybrid schedule: 2 days per week in office required after an initial acclimation period
  • Must be comfortable with the pace and demands of an active litigation practice
  • Lexis proficiency and standard litigation software skills expected
