Location: Hybrid- Employees will be required to work out of the nearest office location 2 days a week and for quarterly meetings 4 times annually.Travel may also be expected as needed.

Position Overview:

The Director, Revenue, Finance & Accounting Operations is the CFO-aligned owner of revenue-related financial operations. This individual-contributor director ensures that commercial and delivery activity is translated into accurate billing, revenue recognition, forecasting, reporting, and audit support. The role partners closely with Revenue Operations, Professional Services Operations, Sales, Legal, and Finance to create clear processes, controls, and accountability across the revenue lifecycle. Operating in a lean SaaS environment, this leader is expected to use enterprise-approved ChatGPT, Codex, workflow automation, and data tools to improve speed, quality, scalability, and decision support while preserving human judgment, confidentiality, auditability, and internal control.

Key Responsibilities:

Revenue Accounting and Financial Close

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Own revenue recognition policies and processes for subscription, support, and professional services revenue.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ensure revenue is recognized accurately and consistently in accordance with company policy and applicable accounting standards, including ASC 606.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Review customer contracts, statements of work, amendments, and non-standard commercial terms for accounting and revenue-recognition implications.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintain revenue schedules, deferred revenue balances, contract assets, contract liabilities, and supporting reconciliations.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Prepare and review revenue-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and close documentation.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Resolve discrepancies among contracts, bookings, billing, project activity, and recognized revenue.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and provide revenue-related analysis to the CFO and auditors.

Billing Governance and Revenue Integrity

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Establish financial policies and controls governing subscription, support, and professional services billing.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Partner with Revenue Operations on subscription and support billing and with Professional Services Operations on project billing inputs and milestones.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Validate that billing activity is supported by executed agreements, approved pricing, delivery milestones, and appropriate documentation.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Monitor billing exceptions, credits, adjustments, delayed invoices, and other items affecting revenue or cash flow.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Reconcile bookings, billings, backlog, deferred revenue, and recognized revenue on a consistent cadence.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Reduce billing errors, revenue leakage, and manual rework through stronger processes and controls.

Forecasting and Financial Planning

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Own the revenue forecast in partnership with the CFO and business leaders.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Develop forecasts for subscription, support, and professional services revenue.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintain visibility into backlog, deferred revenue, contracted revenue, project delivery, and billing schedules.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Incorporate pipeline, bookings, renewals, project delivery, utilization, and staffing assumptions into financial forecasts.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Analyze actual results against forecast and explain material variances, risks, and opportunities.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support company planning and scenario analysis using Datarails or other FP&A tools.

Pricing and Commercial Finance

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Own financial governance of professional services list rates and rate-card methodology.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Evaluate the financial impact of pricing changes, discounts, payment terms, contract structures, and commercial exceptions.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Provide Finance guidance for non-standard arrangements that create accounting, margin, cash-flow, or revenue-recognition risk.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Partner with Revenue Operations on discounting policies and approval thresholds.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support pricing, margin improvement, and revenue predictability through financial analysis.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Vendor and Finance Operations

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support or lead vendor contract negotiations from a financial and commercial perspective.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Evaluate vendor pricing, payment terms, renewal provisions, and financial commitments.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Identify cost-saving, contract-consolidation, and process-improvement opportunities.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support Finance initiatives involving documentation, reporting automation, systems, and data governance.

Systems, Data, and Reporting

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Serve as the Finance business owner for revenue-related requirements within Certinia, Salesforce, PSA, Datarails, and reporting platforms.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Partner with system owners to ensure appropriate configuration, data quality, access controls, and financial reporting.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Define Finance requirements for integrations among Salesforce, Certinia, ERP, PSA, Datarails, and related tools.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Develop standardized reporting for revenue, billing, backlog, deferred revenue, project delivery, and forecast performance.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Reduce reliance on manual spreadsheets and improve the reliability and scalability of financial processes.

AI-Enabled Finance Operations and Workflow Automation

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Use enterprise-approved ChatGPT, Codex, and comparable AI tools to accelerate reconciliation research, variance analysis, contract-term extraction, forecast commentary, policy drafting, audit preparation, and process documentation.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Identify, prioritize, and implement automation opportunities across quote-to-cash, billing, revenue recognition, financial close, forecasting, reporting, vendor management, and cross-functional approvals.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Use Codex or a comparable AI coding assistant to create, review, and test lightweight SQL or Python scripts, data transformations, exception checks, and API-enabled workflows; coordinate production deployment with system owners and IT.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Measure automation outcomes through cycle-time reduction, hours saved, error reduction, control performance, forecast accuracy, and user adoption.

Controls, Compliance, and Audit

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Design, document, and maintain internal controls across revenue recognition, billing governance, forecasting, and reporting.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ensure appropriate segregation of duties among Revenue Operations, Professional Services Operations, Accounting, and Finance.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Serve as the primary owner for revenue-related audit requests, support, and documentation.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Identify control or process gaps and lead remediation efforts.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintain clear documentation for accounting conclusions, reconciliations, assumptions, and management judgments.

Cross-Functional Leadership

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Build trusted partnerships with the CFO, CSO, SVP Professional Services, Sales, Customer Success, Legal, and other business leaders.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Establish clear operating handoffs among Finance, Revenue Operations, and Professional Services Operations.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Define service levels, approval paths, escalation procedures, and process ownership.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Communicate financial risks, operational issues, and recommended actions clearly to executive leadership.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Lead through influence as an individual-contributor director; this role has no direct reports at inception.

Requirements

Qualifications:

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Approximately 8-12 years of progressive experience in accounting, revenue accounting, finance operations, or a related function.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience within start-up and/or lean, smaller-organization structures, specifically in SaaS, cloud, or other technology-related industries.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Strong knowledge of revenue-recognition principles, including ASC 606.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience with subscription, SaaS, support, and professional services revenue models.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience reviewing contracts and interpreting the accounting implications of commercial terms.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Strong understanding of financial close, reconciliations, controls, forecasting, and financial reporting.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience working across ERP, PSA, CRM, and FP&A systems; Salesforce, Certinia, and Datarails experience is preferred.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Demonstrated hands-on experience using ChatGPT and Codex, or comparable enterprise generative-AI and coding-assistant tools, within finance, accounting, or business-operations workflows.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience designing and implementing workflow automation using low-code or orchestration tools and integrating data across CRM, ERP, PSA, FP&A, and reporting platforms.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ability to translate finance processes into structured prompts, workflow requirements, automation specifications, test cases, exception rules, and control checkpoints.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Working ability to read, write, and validate SQL and lightweight Python or similar scripts using AI-assisted development; this is an operational-automation capability, not a software-engineering role.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Understanding of generative-AI limitations and risks, including inaccurate outputs, data leakage, confidentiality, access management, model validation, documentation, and responsible human oversight.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional work without direct authority.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  CPA or equivalent accounting qualification is preferred.
