What is a toy representative?

Toy Representatives are professionals who promote and sell toys to retailers, wholesalers, and sometimes directly to consumers. They typically work for toy manufacturers or distributors and are responsible for showcasing new products, negotiating sales agreements, and maintaining relationships with clients. Their role often involves attending trade shows, providing product demonstrations, and keeping up-to-date with industry trends to effectively market their company's products. Successful Toy Representatives combine sales skills with a deep knowledge of toys and the current market. Their work helps ensure that the latest toys reach stores and ultimately, children and families.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a toy representative?

To excel as a Toy Representative, you need strong sales skills, product knowledge, and typically a background in marketing or business. Familiarity with CRM software, inventory management systems, and point-of-sale technologies is often required. Outstanding interpersonal communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities help you connect with clients and understand market needs. These competencies are crucial for effectively promoting products, building customer loyalty, and driving sales in a competitive retail environment.

What are some common challenges toy representatives face when introducing new products to retailers?

Toy Representatives often encounter challenges such as competing with established brands, navigating seasonal buying patterns, and meeting varying retailer requirements. Building trust with store buyers and effectively demonstrating the value and uniqueness of new toys are essential for success. Additionally, staying updated on industry trends and maintaining strong relationships with both manufacturers and retailers helps overcome these obstacles and facilitates successful product placement.

  2. Meet with customers face-to-face and build real relationships
  3. Keep your portfolio organized and turn clients into long-term business
  4. Show customers how our products drive excitement and sales in their stores
  5. Familiarize with the Ty Inc. brand/licensing to deliver a fresh perspective to our customers
  6. Enter orders easily through our own iPad system, iPad included.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  2. Strong people skills, confidence, and special talent for sales
  3. Competitive drive with a customer-first mindset
  4. Full-time commitment (Monday–Friday)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and insurance
  2. Outside sales experience (bonus points for toy or gift industry)
  3. A creative, entrepreneurial approach to growing your territory

WHY JOIN TY:
  1. Home to some of the most loved brands on the planet
  2. The largest plush manufacturer in the world
  3. The #1 affordable selling soft toy brand globally
  4. Products that customers love, recognize, and buy!

WHAT YOU GET:
  1. Biweekly pay Commission (range $40,000-$65,000 per year)
  2. Gas reimbursement
  3. Full benefits: health, dental, vision + more
  4. 401(k) with company match
  5. Monday–Friday schedule (your weekends are yours)

READY TO JOIN THE FUN?
If you’re ready to be part of great success, grow your territory, and sell products people genuinely love—we want to hear from you!

Send us your résumé and a quick note on why you’re the perfect fit.
