Senior AccountantLocation: Providence, RIOverview

Thames & Kosmos is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented accountant to support the organization's financial planning and accounting functions. This role combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and business reporting to help drive informed decision-making across the company.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and advanced Excel capabilities. Success in this role requires intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to balance daily accounting responsibilities with strategic financial analysis.

Primary ResponsibilitiesFinancial Analysis & Planning
  • Prepare financial reports, cash flow forecasts, and management reports.
  • Assist with uploading annual budgets into SAP.
  • Review and analyze financial results, highlighting significant variances and underlying trends.
  • Support management with business analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Assist in developing financial models and cash flow forecasting tools.
Accounting & Compliance
  • Assist with managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Assist with maintaining and reconciling balance sheet accounts and general ledger activity.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Calculate and track prepaid expenses.
  • Calculate royalty expenses and royalty income.
  • Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns and annual special tax filings.
  • Maintain customer resale certificates and related compliance documentation.
  • Assist with annual financial statement reviews and corporate tax return preparation.
  • Assist with Monitoring Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist with supporting external auditors and provide requested documentation.
Process Improvement
  • Assist with identifying opportunities to improve accounting systems, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Assist with the implementation of new processes, systems, and reporting tools.
  • Support the accounting team with special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a combination of both.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), and tax compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and financial modeling.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with SAP Business One is preferred.
