Job Title: On-Call Pharmacy Technician
Department: Pharmacy
Reports To: Pharmacy Manager

SUMMARY
The On-Call Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacist by performing all standard pharmacy technician duties, including prescription filling, dispensing, and delivery to patients of NHC Pharmacy. This position plays a key role in maintaining high-quality pharmacy services, with flexibility required to respond to staffing needs as they arise.
Essential Job Duties
  • Create pharmacy charts for patients establishing care with NHC Pharmacy.
  • Enter and update patient information in the pharmacy record for pharmacist review.
  • Assist the pharmacist on duty in filling prescription orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Deliver prescriptions to patients' homes after pharmacist counseling and release.
  • Enter and bill pharmacy insurance plans for dispensed prescriptions.
  • Coordinate and schedule prescription deliveries to patients.
  • Collect payment from patients for dispensed prescriptions when required.
  • Maintain on-site pharmacy inventory and associated records.
  • Order, receive, and check in medications and supplies from vendors.
  • Review stock and remove expired medications in compliance with policy.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct inquiries to the pharmacist on duty as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
  • This position requires a high school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years' experience as a Pharmacy Technician is preferred

License and/or Certification Requirements
  • Current BLS certification
  • Active and unencumbered Driver's license
  • Active automobile insurance

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Behaviors
  • Ability to perform medication deliveries reliably and safely.
  • Strong professional communication skills, both verbal and written, including in stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in operating a multi-line phone system and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing processes, information, and policies.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the population and patients served.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Proficiency with Pioneer Pharmacy Management Software preferred.
  • Proficiency with Epic Electronic Health Record preferred.
  • Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in Spanish highly preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Moderate noise level typical of a pharmacy environment.
  • Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens or hazardous chemicals.
  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods, use hands for data entry, and differentiate colors/brightness on a computer screen.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk to gather supplies, perform filing, use office equipment, or collaborate with team members.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, lift, or move objects, equipment, or supplies weighing 20-25 lbs, and up to 40-50 lbs.

Additional Position Expectations
  • Annual Training: Completion of required yearly training is mandatory and will be compensated when completed within designated timelines.
  • Active Status Requirement: If the employee does not work any active on-call shifts for six (6) consecutive months, on-call employment will be immediately terminated.

Compensation
  • Hourly rate based on experience.
  • Paid compensation for timely completion of required annual training.
