Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES) provides energy industry solutions โ€“ new equipment, retrofits, maintenance, outage planning and more โ€“ for current and future power generation needs in the Americas, including thermal, hydro and nuclear power plants.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to work out of our West Allis, WI office. The role is responsible for drafting activities in support of modifications to steam turbine equipment for repair work and procurement of parts. This role closely collaborates with others in engineering, shop operations and commercial operations staff in the support of customer projects and/or parts.

Essential Duties

  • Interpret and transform existing drawings into formats used by Toshiba operations and suppliers
  • Generation of detailed parts drawings in accordance with all established Toshiba procedures and practices.
  • Creation and maintenance of document records within the company PDM System.
  • Mechanical designing, including detailed process drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings and design layouts.
  • Coordination of quality requirements in the preparation, review, issue and release of design documentation.
  • Interpret OEM drawings and drafting conventions, design and manufacturing standards, part numbering and product structuring conventions.
  • May interpret OEM related U.S. and international industry standards governing product form such as ISO, ASME, JIN, etc.
  • Ability to utilize manual inspection tools such as calipers and micrometers to support reverse engineering of components.
  • Understanding of OEM quality requirements.
  • Other project or design documentation required.

Education and Required Experience

  • Mechanical Design Technology degree or equivalent experience
  • At least five (5) years of experience in design work in AutoCAD/SolidWorks required
  • Prior work experience in a service shop environment, particularly in the power generation industry preferred
  • Prior experience in working with PDM and ERP systems preferred.
  • Verbal and written communication skills required
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products preferred
  • Knowledge of document management concepts and computer-based document management systems.

The employee must be able to lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

The majority of this work takes place in an office and the work environment is that of a typical office environment in a manufacturing setting where noise levels are usually moderate. Frequently the employee will interact with personnel in the plant where he/she may be exposed to higher noise levels.
