Job description

Job Summary:

The Compounding Production Operator at Toray Resin is a key contributor to the production of high-performance engineered thermoplastics. This role demands a high level of versatility and technical proficiency across all stages of the compounding process, including weighing, handling, mixing, extrusion, pelletizing, bagging, packing, and staging of raw materials and finished products. Operators are responsible for cleaning, assembling, and operating a wide range of production machinery such as extruders, mixers, tumblers, feeders, classifiers, and pelletizers, ensuring optimal setup and performance in accordance with company procedures.

Working under general supervision, the operator must demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions. The role involves maintaining accurate documentation, preparing quality control samples, and supporting inventory management. Operators are expected to communicate effectively across departments, assist in training new employees, and uphold safety and housekeeping standards throughout the facility.

This position requires physical stamina to handle heavy materials and navigate multi-level production environments. It also calls for a proactive mindset in identifying and resolving production issues, with the authority to halt operations to ensure product conformity. The operator plays a vital role in supporting Torayโ€™s Quality Policy and Continuous Improvement Plan, embodying the companyโ€™s core values of innovation, integrity, and sustainability in every aspect of their work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean, set up, and operate production machinery including extruders, mixers, tumblers, feeders, cutters, classifiers, and pelletizers.
  • Weigh and document pigment, additive, and raw materials per instructions; ensure accurate staging and return of materials.
  • Transport raw materials and finished products within the warehouse and production areas.
  • Provide samples to the Quality Control Lab and maintain effective communication with supervisors and technicians.
  • Pack and label raw materials and finished products; ensure proper packaging and palletizing.
  • Maintain accurate reports, records, and logs in both paper and electronic formats.
  • Monitor inventory levels for pigment and additive materials; communicate with Materials Controller.
  • Assist in training new employees and support team collaboration.
  • Measure departmental performance and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.
  • Uphold Torayโ€™s mission and values in daily operations and decision-making.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Possess authority to stop production to correct quality issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High School diaploma or GED
  • Minimum of 3 months of job-related experience with mathematical skills preferred.
  • Strong communication (oral/written), computer, math, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate basic office machines and a forklift.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and adherence to SOPs.
  • Physical fitness to handle 55 lb. bags and navigate multiple flights of stairs during shifts.
