Job description

Summary

The Tools Management Specialist/Engineer is responsible for overseeing the selection, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of various engineering tools and software used within a company. These tools may include design software, testing equipment, simulation platforms, and other technical resources crucial for the engineering department's operations. The role involves ensuring that tools are up to date, meet the needs of the engineering team, and are used efficiently to improve productivity and deliver high-quality outputs. Role responsibility is crucial for ensuring that the engineering department has access to the right tools and resources to complete tasks efficiently and meet company goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other Duties not listed may be assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Tool Selection & Evaluation:
    • Evaluate and recommend tools for design, simulation, testing, and other engineering functions based on the company's requirements.
    • Assess existing tools to ensure they meet the evolving needs of the team and the organization.
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in tools and technologies relevant to engineering processes.
  2. Implementation & Integration:
    • Lead the implementation of new tools, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with existing workflows, systems, and software.
    • Coordinate with vendors and internal teams for the installation and configuration of engineering tools.
    • Ensure smooth deployment of tools, including data migration, user access setup, and configuration.
  3. Tool Maintenance & Support:
    • Oversee the routine maintenance of engineering tools, ensuring they remain functional and efficient.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues with tools and resolve them in a timely manner.
    • Provide technical support and training to end-users to ensure optimal tool usage.
  4. Tool Optimization:
    • Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of tools to identify opportunities for optimization.
    • Implement improvements and upgrades to enhance tool efficiency, usability, and performance.
    • Work with teams to identify pain points and address them through better tool configuration or updates.
  5. Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of tools, including their configurations, usage guidelines, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Track tool usage and generate reports on tool performance, cost-efficiency, and ROI (Return on Investment).
    • Prepare reports for management and stakeholders on tool performance, issues, and improvement efforts.
  6. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
    • Work closely with engineering, IT, and procurement teams to ensure that the tools meet technical and business needs.
    • Participate in cross-department meetings to gather feedback and align tool capabilities with departmental goals.
    • Ensure that tools support the broader organizational objectives, such as quality control, project timelines, and resource management.
  7. Compliance & Security:
    • Ensure that all tools adhere to industry standards, regulations, and security requirements.
    • Implement best practices for data security and integrity while using engineering tools.
    • Manage software licensing and compliance to avoid unauthorized tool use and ensure all licenses are up to date.
  8. Cost Management:
    • Monitor tool-related expenses and help optimize costs by negotiating with vendors or selecting cost-effective solutions.
    • Manage the budgeting process for tools and tool-related resources.

  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work environment while supporting the company's culture.
  • Responsible for fostering a healthy and safe work environment, focusing on the well-being of all associates.
  • Maintains and strengthens internal, external customer and supplier relationships. Communicates and works with all business partners.
  • Ensures inventory management and allocation flows product through the warehouse in the most cost efficient and productive manner.

Education and/or Experience

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc.), Computer Science, or related field. Master's degree or certifications in tools management is a plus.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in tools management, engineering, or IT support roles, ideally within a technical or manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of engineering tools and software (CAD, CAM, CAE, PLM, ERP systems, etc.), and proficiency in troubleshooting and tool optimization.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Project Management: Experience in managing projects related to tool implementation, upgrades, or optimization.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail, ensuring tools are properly maintained and accurately documented.

Working Conditions

Office and outside environmental conditions found in the warehouse, hot in the summer, cold in the winter. Individuals may need to walk for an extensive period of time while working and walking the facilities; to reach over shoulder heights; bend or stoop below the waist; repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
