Job description

Job Title: Lathe Machinist (Manual & CNC)

Location: Solon, OH

Company: Majestic Tool and Machine Inc.

Job Summary

Majestic Tool and Machine is looking for a versatile Lathe Machinist to produce precision parts for custom metalworking projects. As a family-owned job shop, we value craftsmen who can handle a project from start to finish—interpreting unique blueprints, setting up machines for "one-off" or short-run parts, and ensuring high-quality standards for our global clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Operation: Set up and operate manual lathes and CNC lathe machines to perform turning, facing, threading, and boring operations.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications.
  • Setup & Tooling: Select appropriate cutting tools, attachments, and materials (carbide, high-speed steel) based on the material being machined (steel, aluminum, alloys, etc.).
  • Precision Measurement: Use micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges to verify that finished parts meet strict tolerances (often within .0005").
  • Quality Control: Perform "first-article" inspections and monitor the machining process to prevent defects or tool wear.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance on lathes and keep the workstation clean and safe.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the design team to assist in the building of special application machines and automated systems.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a job-shop environment. Experience with both CNC and Manual (Engine/Turret) lathes is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: * Proficiency in manual machining (Bridgeport experience is a plus).
    • Basic CNC programming or the ability to make "at-machine" offsets and adjustments.
    • Strong mathematical skills (geometry and trigonometry).
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and a "craftsman" mindset for unique, non-repetitive work.

Why Majestic Tool?

  • Diverse Work: Unlike high-volume production shops, you will work on a variety of unique parts for different industries.
  • Stability: A trusted name in Solon since 1973.
  • Culture: Family-owned environment with a focus on reliability and craftsmanship.
