Job description

About This Role

We're excited to announce that Paradise Carpet One in Lawrence, Kansas, is expanding its team! We're seeking an experienced Interior Designer who brings a keen eye for color, pattern, and texture. This is a project-driven position designed for a creative professional who thrives on transforming spaces through high-quality flooring and tile, backed by exceptional customer service.

The ideal candidate possesses a unique blend of aesthetic vision and project management expertise. You'll be the lead guide for our clients, turning their ideas into reality while overseeing every detail of the project from the first consultation to the final walkthrough.

We operate in a "soft retail" environment where attention to detail and organizational precision are essential, along with your design sense. If you're a business-minded professional who excels under deadlines and prioritizes flawless execution and communication, you'll find a home with our team.

What You'll Do
  • Project Consultations: Collaborate with clients in our showroom to curate flooring and tile selections, focusing on aesthetics and functionality.

  • On-Site Visits: Conduct professional consultations to assess project needs, provide layout expertise, and ensure accurate project scopes.

  • End-to-End Project Management: Oversee the entire process, including scheduling, problem-solving, and collaborating with installation teams to ensure seamless execution.

  • Client Management: Maintain consistent follow-up and professional communication to guarantee total customer satisfaction.

  • Showroom Maintenance: Assist in maintaining a high-end, organized showroom environment that reflects our commitment to quality and design.

Requirements
  • Organizational Mastery: Exceptional attention to detail is non-negotiable. You must be comfortable managing data entry, technical paperwork, and complex project timelines with high accuracy.

  • Customer Service Background: A strong history in a service-oriented environment. We are a "soft retail" store; we prioritize the relationship and the experience over a hard sell.

  • Design Expertise: Proven experience in interior design, color theory, or pattern coordination. You should be comfortable leading clients through aesthetic decisions. Open to other field design experience.

  • Communication Excellence: Polished written and verbal skills are required for professional client follow-up and internal teamwork.

  • Project Ownership: Ability to multitask and thrive under deadlines. You are the "driver" of the project from the first consultation to the final walkthrough.

  • Design Software Familiarity: Familiarity with design or CAD software (e.g., 2020 Design, SketchUp, or similar visualization tools).

  • Local Professionalism: Familiarity with the Lawrence market and a commitment to maintaining the high standards of the Paradise Carpet One brand.

  • Problem-Solving Mindset: A positive, "business-minded" attitude when navigating installation hurdles or logistics.

Nice To Haves

While not required, the following experience will make a candidate stand out:

  • Retail/Showroom Experience: A background in a "soft retail" or high-end showroom environment where the customer experience is the top priority.

  • Local Networking: Existing connections within the Lawrence, KS design or home-building community.

  • Technical Knowledge: An understanding of subfloors, transitions, or the technical "how-to" of tile and hardwood installation.

  • Industry Experience: Previous experience in the flooring, tile, or home remodeling industry.

Benefits
  • Paid holiday, vacation, and sick leave
  • Matching SIMPLE IRA
  • Life Insurance
