What is a Tier I support analyst?

Tier I Support Analysts are the first point of contact for customers or end-users experiencing technical issues with a product or service. They handle basic troubleshooting, answer questions, and resolve common problems, often by following established procedures or scripts. If an issue can't be resolved at this level, Tier I analysts escalate it to higher-level support teams. Their role is essential for providing timely support and ensuring customer satisfaction.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a Tier I support analyst?

To thrive as a Tier I Support Analyst, you need a foundational understanding of IT concepts, troubleshooting skills, and often an associate degree or relevant technical certification such as CompTIA A+. Familiarity with ticketing systems, remote desktop tools, and basic networking or operating system platforms is typically required. Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving abilities distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies ensure efficient resolution of user issues, customer satisfaction, and smooth escalation of more complex problems.

What are common challenges faced by Tier I support analysts, and how can they be overcome?

Tier I Support Analysts often encounter challenges such as handling high volumes of support tickets, dealing with frustrated users, and accurately identifying the root cause of technical issues. To overcome these obstacles, it's important to develop strong communication and time-management skills, follow established troubleshooting procedures, and know when to escalate complex issues to higher-tier teams. Building a solid understanding of common systems and maintaining a customer-focused approach can also make interactions smoother and more effective.

This position is located in El Paso, TX, Las Cruces, NM, or Kansas City, MO. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, and communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical staff. This role supports engineers, architects, designers, and project teams who rely on stable workstations, reliable connectivity, and quick turnaround on technical issues to keep projects moving.

  • Experience imaging and deploying PCs via Microsoft Intune (Autopilot a plus), including asset inventory/equipment tracking
  • Troubleshooting computer hardware, software, and application issues, including patch/update management (installing, troubleshooting, manual deployment when auto-updates fail)
  • Active Directory account management (creating, disabling, modifying users), password resets, DNS, DHCP, and MFA support
  • Support for internal and cloud-based infrastructure: email, printers, wired/wireless networks, and Teams-based video conferencing/AV
  • Experience with Remote Desktop tools and mobile device support (iPhone, Android, tablets)
  • Software license management for design applications (Autodesk, Bentley, Esri) and basic GIS awareness (ArcGIS or similar)
  • Experience supporting civil engineering and architecture design applications (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Bentley MicroStation) strongly desired, including large CAD/BIM/GIS file and storage needs
  • Basic cybersecurity awareness (phishing identification, endpoint protection alerts)
  • Strong documentation habits - accurate ticket logging and contribution to knowledge base/SOPs
  • Understanding of SLA targets and escalation procedures (Tier 2/3 hand-off)
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong customer service orientation in a user-facing, deadline-driven environment
  • Hands-on workstation support required, including lifting/moving equipment; willingness to report to the office regularly and support occasional after-hours/on-call work
  • Occasional travel to other offices required
  • Ability to work independently or on a team, adapting quickly as business needs change
  • Highly motivated, with interest in career growth through company training

Annual Salary Range: $23.75 - $27.50 (Depending on Experience)
